Sr. Industrial Hygienist (IH) / Safety

This position is for a full-time Industrial Hygienist at Broadcom’s Fort Collins, Colorado semiconductor wafer fabrication manufacturing site. As part of the site’s Environmental, Safety and Health group, this position is responsible for developing, implementing and supporting the successful execution of safety and industrial hygiene programs.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Develops, maintains, and enforces health and safety policies and procedures in a dynamic Fab environment and in accordance with all local, state, federal regulations, company EHS program requirements and industry adopted standards
  • Acts as liaison to regulatory agencies for inspections and inquiries. Responsible for timely submittal of government reports, permits and forms 
  • Reviews the procurement of chemicals and materials purchased for production, engineering, and R&D, including technical oversight and maintenance of chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheets
  • Participates in EHS reviews of design plans for facility renovations, new construction and equipment modifications.
  • Provides timely and proportional Industrial Hygiene and safety review during the purchasing, installation and removal/decommissioning of production equipment
  • Performs quantitative and qualitative risk assessments and assists employees, management, and other stakeholders in carrying out effective chemical safety practices accordingly. 
  • Directs and performs chemical and noise exposure monitoring studies, including identification of similar exposure groups.
  • Oversee exposure monitoring to ensure compliance with occupational exposure limits and evaluate engineering control effectiveness.
  • Conduct literature searches and make recommendations if no acceptable standards are available
  • Serves as the Laser Safety Officer and Radiation Safety Officer for the site.
  • Manages the laser and radiation safety programs and provides direction on safe work practices and engineering.


Qualifications for the position are:

  • A BS or MS degree in industrial hygiene, engineering or science, chemistry, or similar and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience focused on chemical or semiconductor safety.
  • Proven knowledge of semiconductor wafer fabrication safety and/or prior experience working in a fab environmental is desired.
  • A current Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation is highly preferred, or demonstrate ability to obtain certification in near future.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement well-integrated EHS programs within the workplace are required.
  • Effective written and oral communications skills are essential, as are basic computer and database skills.
  • The successful candidate has a solid working knowledge of federal and state health & safety regulations and consensus occupational health & safety standards, including but not limited to SEMI Standards and Best Known Methods (BKM), NFPA, and OSHA regulations.
