Senior Safety Manager

Department: Risk Management and Safety
Reports To: Director – Risk Management and Safety

The Safety Manager is responsible to develop and maintain a world class safety organization, where safety is highly valued and safe behaviors are consistently applied. This includes support and implementation of the Safety Links program, including all company injury prevention activities, general awareness campaigns, OSHA required compliance programs and other behavioral based safety programs as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include but not limited to the following:

  • Work with location management to implement all aspects of the company safety program, Safety Links
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA and other Federal, State and Local safety rules and regulations
  • Review hazard analysis, compliance and safety audits at locations of responsibility
  • Lead a behavioral based safety program
  • Encourage and assist all departments to implement strategies that build awareness and create enthusiasm around safety
  • Assist Corporate Safety Director with implementation of company-wide safety programs
  • Support location to educate department managers, supervisors and leads on safety topics so they are able to deliver safety training and coaching in their respective departments.
  • Ensure locations are identifying root causes of work related injuries and illnesses and implementing methods to eliminate causes.
  • Attend training and seminars on current Health and Safety regulations and Programs.
  • Work with human resources to coordinate return to work and light duty.
  • Assist location human resources, supervisors and managers with team member counseling and discipline related to unsafe acts
  • Provide coaching on safety work rules, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Identify needed improvements to existing programs; continuously improve the quality of all support activities.
  • Perform any and all other duties that may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety or related degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.  Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.  Experience with a Safety or Risk Management Information System is desirable. Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable.  Previous experience in distribution and /warehouse highly desirable.  Previous experience using Alchemy Training and Coaching system.

Skills – Language/Communication/Mathematical/Reasoning:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively on a phone and before customers and other employees.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to create and interpret graphs and charts.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to sit and talk/hear.  The team member frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The team member is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
