Senior Manager, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

As a Senior Manager, Health, Safety & Environment, you will be responsible for a company-wide comprehensive Health and Safety Program including safety policy, procedures, and communication associated with the design, development and implementation of initiatives and processes.

Specific Duties and Essential Functions: 

  • Serve as the strategic catalyst for setting the direction of the Safety, Health & Environment program; works with senior leaders across the businesses and functions to inspire participation and to bring cohesiveness and synergy to the program
  • Develop a compelling, strategic-focused, and multi-faceted communication plan that addresses clients, employees and field management, etc.; sell ideas by forming partnerships with operating leaders (GM’s) and corporate executives and demonstrating value
  • Provide guidance for departmental processes and activities including compliance with safety regulations and the investigation of accidents; provide leadership and recommendations regarding the design, embedment and administration of all Safety and Health related initiatives, policies, procedures and tactical processes
  • Drive the operational implementation of initiatives and processes in such a way as to build an organization-wide safety and compliance culture; ensure that the key elements of this safety and compliance culture are consistent with the emphasis and metrics of the organization
  • Conduct periodic reviews to determine compliance with policies and procedures; participates in annual audits
  • Review accident investigations and participate as required; ensure proper policies and procedures are followed; prepare (in conjunction with others) Safety and Health reports; provide analysis of trends/data and provide recommendations for follow-up and action planning
  • Monitor developments, trends and legislation related to industry safety and evaluate impact on business operations; recommends policy and procedural improvements as appropriate
  • Oversee and participate in the development of (in conjunction with others) various leadership training and employee awareness programs; monitor the effectiveness of these programs and link training completion / performance to safety / business metrics
  • Attend relevant industry conferences and professional meetings as part of benchmarking and environmental scanning activities; identify innovations / practices / tools / approaches that have potential utility for the company and work to make them "fit for purpose" within the organization; serve as the subject matter expert and coach to operating leaders across G4S Secure Solutions (USA)
  • Represent the Safety and Health department to affiliate organizations, external agencies, and public officials as part of broad planning or communication efforts; explain, justify, defend department programs, policies, and activities as part of negotiations or issue resolution
  • Direct budget process for designated area of responsibility (including third party contracts) and allocate funds within budget limit to accomplish objectives.  Monitor variance against budget on an ongoing basis

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Safety Management,, Emergency Management or related field
  • Must possess one of the following professional safety certifications upon application:Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Must possess, or be able to achieve, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Must have completed, or be able to complete, either the OSHA 500 course for the construction industry or the 501 course for general industry or achieved within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required: 

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience within the safety profession at a management level with at least 3 years in operations safety
  • Minimum of 5 years of fire safety/security management experience working within a large multi-faceted organization
