Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist


The successful candidate will ensure compliance with internal and external EHS regulatory requirements at Transamerican Auto Parts (TAP) distribution centers across the country. The Senior EHS Specialist position will partner with other EHS professionals and distribution center leadership to implement TAP enterprise-wide Environmental, Health and Safety policies, procedures and initiatives. The individual will also be responsible for promoting cross-site best practice sharing, leading corporate safety initiatives at the distribution centers and for participation on enterprise-wide EHS project teams.


  • Understands, implements and ensures compliance with all applicable internal and external Environmental, Health & Safety regulations, policies and procedures
  • Works with multi-site teams to develop standard operating procedures for distribution activities
  • Perform job hazard analysis and risk assessments at distribution centers
  • Work with leaders to direct safety and environmental initiatives at multiple distribution locations
  • Plans and coordinates EHS compliance training programs; prepares materials; coordinates, schedules and presents training classes; evaluates program effectiveness. 
  • Conducts routine EHS inspections and audits; ensures compliance with internal and external regulatory standards, corrects on-the-spot violations; informs department of findings, recommends corrective or preventative measures, and performs follow-up inspections
  • Leads incident investigations to identify root cause of unplanned incidents and ensures corrective action measures are executed in a timely manner
  • Proactively investigates near misses and analyzes EHS reports and facility statistics for trends and patterns to identify potential improvement opportunities
  • Monitors local EHS regulatory developments and implements appropriate responsive programs
  • Serves as a resource on facility wide issues related to environmental compliance, personnel and asset safety, emergency action planning and site security
  • Reviews new equipment installations, work instructions, capital projects and contract work to assure hazards have been identified and risk control measures are developed along with compliance to environmental and safety requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Required travel up to 25-50%


  • Communication skills; written and oral - Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and to multi-site locations
  • Influencing and Relationship Building Skills – Ability to utilize organizational knowledge to build relationships, exercise influence and lead change at multi-site retail locations
  • EHS External Partnering/Negotiation Skills – Ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively with external stakeholders
  • Must be able to read and understand environmental and OSHA State and Federal environmental and safety rules & regulations in multiple U.S. locations
  • Capable of analyzing the probability and severity of risk in order to reduce the chance that harm will occur
  • Develops and implements risk reduction programs for a facility or group of facilities within the same business
  • Knowledge of powered material handling equipment and fall protection equipment along with associated standards
  • Ergonomic assessments and associated factors and application of that knowledge in warehouse/distribution activities
  • Experience with managing powered equipment and pedestrian safety concerns


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in industrial environmental, health and safety function in a fast-paced, complex warehouse/distribution environment
  • Proven ability to effectively influence and lead change at multi-site locations
