Safety Technician

Supervises and coordinates activities required to promote safety by performing the following duties.

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Promote safety awareness, injury prevention and employee involvement in regard to a safe work environment. Ensure employees have an understanding of the safety expectations of the organization
  • Recommends measures to improve safety performance.
  • Assists in developing the job hazard analyses for all areas of the facility.
  • Assist in developing elements of safety program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  • Establishes or adjusts work instructions to meet ISO requirements.
  • Interprets company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates plans and motivates employees to achieve safety goals.
  • Assists in cost reduction efforts and supports team cost reduction goals.
  • Requisitions boots, safety supplies and other materials required for the safety department.
  • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to rotate shifts if/when necessary.
  • Assist in the implementation and development of new hire training programs.
  • Involvement in the corporate safety initiatives.
  • Entry of data to present at the internal safety meetings and to facilitate the meetings if necessary.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university; minimum of two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred candidate should be capable of interpreting OSHA regulations, SDS forms etc... that would apply to the safety programs at EJ.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to groups both internal and external to the organization.
  • Preferred candidate should be proficient in Microsoft office (Excel, Word and Power Point)
  • OSHA 10 and/or 30 hour course completion, basic first aid and CPR training and experience in industrial hygiene would be beneficial to this position.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
