Safety Specialist

Georgia-Pacific Green Bay Operations is seeking to hire a Safety Specialist. This is a salaried position that will report to the Day Street Site Safety Manager. Specifically, this position would assist in mill risk assessments, loss prevention, implementing and managing safety compliance standards as assigned and utilizing the safety management system.  The employee that aligns with our company values will find fulfillment in being a role model and coach for other employees through the application of our MBM® framework and Guiding Principles, including safety & health compliance and achievement of mill and corporate safety objectives.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
* Utilizing and developing systems/methods for identifying hazards and evaluating risk in existing or future equipment, processes, and operations
* Enhancing the Mills capability in the development and implementation of fundamental safety programs.  Fundamental programs include, but are not limited to Confined Space, Emergency Response, Electrical, Safe Work Practices, Lock Tag Verify, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Mobile Equipment, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, Contractor Safety and Safe Work Permits.
* Assisting the Safety & Health Services department with aspects of the Safety & Health programs for the mill, including continuous improvement of safety & health programs.
* Acting as a Compliance Standard Owner (CSO) and Subject Matter Expert in a variety of safety disciplines
* Assisting in the development and delivery of required regulatory training
* Performing Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) and other risk assessment processes at the facility
* Developing the mills capability to conduct effective incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
* Providing coaching and mentoring to facilitate ownership for safety at all levels
* Providing support to the development of our Facility Risk Assessment (FRA) and Department Risk Assessments (DRA)
* Leading, coaching and developing employees utilizing our MBM® Guiding Principles
* Leading the facility through safety audits and inspection
* Managing safety teams related to Life Safety Rules and Critical Procedures
* Working independently with vendors on finding solutions to safety opportunities
* Developing facility capabilities in fire systems, loss prevention and emergency response
* Supporting the Safety Leaders as needed with additional duties and responsibilities as the business requires
* Demonstrating effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
* Producing accurate, high quality work in a time sensitive fast paced environment

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:
* A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety or related technical field (engineering, sciences, etc.)
* One (1) year or more of safety-related work experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment and/or a Georgia-Pacific ELP that has successfully completed one year of service in the ELP role
* Experience and knowledge of OSHA 1910 compliance regulations, as well as relevant industry safety standards 
* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel (spreadsheet creation/ editing, pivot tables, formula creation, etc.), PowerPoint (Presentation creation/editing), and Word (creating and modifying documents and tables)
* Experience and knowledge in recognizing and mitigating hazards

Preferred Qualifications:

* Certified Safety Professional or equivalent certification
* Certificate or Certification in Safety or a Safety Related Field
* Two (2) or more years of proven Safety & Health work in paper manufacturing, converting or packaging
* Experience establishing sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
