Safety Specialist

Georgia-Pacific Lehigh Valley Dixie Operations is seeking to hire a Safety Specialist.

This is a salaried position that will report to the Manager of Environmental, Safety & Health Services at the Lehigh Valley Dixie Facility. Specifically, this position would assist in risk assessments, contractor safety activities, loss prevention, fire protection, machine safe-guarding and other safety compliance standards as assigned. A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
     * Leading, coaching and developing employees utilizing the MBM® Guiding Principles and Framework
     * Identifying hazards and evaluating risk in existing or future equipment, processes, and operations
     * Ensuring facilities have prioritized (risk-based), actionable strategies and that effective metrics are utilized to monitor progress and performance
     * Enhancing the capability in the development and implementation of fundamental safety programs such as Confined Space, Emergency Response, Fire Protection Systems, Lock Tag Verify, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Mobile Equipment, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, and Safe Work Permits
     * Assisting with all aspects of Safety & Health programs, including continuous improvement, compliance standard ownership and subject matter expertise
     * Providing a visible safety presence in the field with operations, maintenance, and contract work groups
     * Providing support to the contractor safety management program, machine safeguarding, safety design standards, fire protection and others as assigned
     * Assisting in the development and delivery of required regulatory training
     * Performing Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) and other risk assessments
     * Developing the capability to conduct effective incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
     * Providing coaching and mentoring to facilitate ownership for safety at all levels
     * Assisting in the development of Facility Risk Assessments (FRA) and Department Risk Assessments (DRA)
     * Leading safety audits, inspection and interactions with government agencies
     * Working independently with vendors on finding solutions to safety opportunities

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:
     * One or more of the following:
          + Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety or safety field
          + Three (3) years or more of experience in a plant safety & health role
          + Current or previous graduate from Georgia-Pacific’s ELP, EDP, or intern programs

What Will Put You Ahead?
Preferred Qualifications:
     * Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification
     * Knowledge of OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, NFPA Codes, ANSI OR
     * Experience and knowledge in recognizing and mitigating hazards
     * Experience with Microsoft Office software (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
     * Five (5) years or more of Safety & Health experience in a manufacturing environment
     * Ability to establish sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
