Safety Program Manager

The Safety Program Manager is an exciting new position to the City. The successful candidate will design and implement a city-wide safety program.  This is a high-profile program and we are looking for a candidate with the interest and skill set to handle the day-to-day safety functions and risk assessment for Workers' Compensation, CDL/drug testing, safety training, and safety committees.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, organize and manage the City-wide Workers' Compensation and the CDL/drug and alcohol compliance programs.
  • Evaluate the City's safety program to improve customer service, productivity and efficiency, and resolve work-related complaints and issues that cannot be addressed by staff.
  • Provide technical and policy information to internal (HR and employees) and external (community and outside the City) customers.
  • Prepare and oversee budgets, control and approve expenditures and capital purchases, monitor, prepare and submit periodic budget updates, and monitor assigned performance measures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Equivalent of: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management, Risk Management, Human Resources, Industrial Hygiene, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Six (6) years' experience in safety management, inspection, and training, to include 2 (two) years' program management or lead experience and one (1) year of Workers' Compensation administration experience.
  • Licenses and Certification:
  • At the time of hire, have a valid Washington State driver's license and a driving record that meets city standards.
