OBJECTIVES/SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The primary goal of this position is to coordinate all safety functions of the facility and promote safety related activities in a professional and highly organized manner and to ensure all policies and procedures meet or exceed OSHA guidelines and regulations.

This position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to safely lead a team to meet production goals in a fast pace environment. Knowledge of safety specifications and practices, production goals, and scheduling needs are a necessity. Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels to strive towards continuous improvement is a must in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualified candidate for this position will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Safety, or related field and/or no less than 3 years experience in a safety position in a manufacturing environment. Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations and work place safety requirements.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
Strong organizational and human relations skills are a must.  Must be able to work with supervisors and team members to attain safety related goals.  Basic computer knowledge is required, with the ability to learn Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point).  Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be willing and able to speak to and train large groups of people.

TRAINING NEEDED ANNUALLY:
Audit, HACCP, SSOP, GMP, Food Security, Animal Welfare, Allergen

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: 

  • Establish and implement safety programs that promote a healthy, safe work environment.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of all safety programs and make recommendations or implement necessary changes.
  • Provide a safe work environment for all team members.
  • Monitor and track the Safety Metrics and report out to plant and company leadership.
  • Implement, monitor and document all safety audits and keep an accurate and neat file of same.
  • Direct the activities of the Safety Supervisor and Safety Ambassador.
  • Work with the Supervisors and Managers in identifying, addressing and eliminating all safety related concerns and hazards.
  • Provide weekly updates to the plant leadership, summarizing all safety related activities and issues.
  • Assume compliance of all OSHA regulations including HazCom, LO/TO, etc.
  • Facilitate the safety committee.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with Process Safety Management and Risk Management Standards.
  • Conduct or direct all new team member safety orientations.
  • Conduct or direct all safety training of team members involving chemical handling, LO/TO, forklift or walkie, etc. 
  • Work with supervisors and managers to make sure all team members have received the proper safety training, track and document all safety training.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Corporate EHS Manager or the Director of Human Resources.
  • Take an active interest in performance level, attendance, and attitude.
  • Demonstrates an active interest in producing quality products/services.
