Basic Position Objective Statement:
Manage all aspects of the assigned location safety programs and policies related to improving associate safety and reducing or eliminating occupational injuries, illnesses and financial losses.

Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Develop a vision and work with other leaders to implement a safety program that achieves accident prevention and protects associates. This includes: safety meeting strategy, accident investigations, inspection programs, hazard communications, LOTO, confined space, blood borne pathogens, hearing conservation, GHS compliance, OSHA and state safety regulations compliance, machine guarding strategy, safety supply program coordination, behavior modification and awareness programs and new associate orientation.
  • Manage the workers compensation process to include: modified duty, loss-prevention programs, claim investigation, return to work certification, approving and monitoring claim and compensation payments, monitoring experience modification trends, hearings, settlement recommendations.
  • Manage the training of leaders and associates around safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Directly manage the outside contractor safety policy and support project managers in regard to their responsibility to insure the contractors are compliant with the policy.
  • Compile, analyze, interpret and prepare safety reports for timely reporting, audits, and actions.
  • Maintain active networking with outside organizations, committees and professional organizations to assure the company’s safety program is effective and contemporary.
  • Other assignments as made by management.

Knowledge, Education and Training Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an occupational safety curriculum, or closely-related field required.
  • 5-8 years of direct safety management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Additional training and certification in safety preferred.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements of OSHA, state, federal and global safety regulations required.


Key Functional Competencies:

  • Demonstrated safety training, design and platform delivery.
  • Demonstrated safety management experience gained in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a continuous operations plant.  
  • Demonstrated workers compensation and/or disability case management.


Key Performance Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a culture defined by LRC’s core values of achievement, teamwork, innovation and respect.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.  Effective planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to work unscheduled and/or additional hours during the week, on weekends, or outside of regular office hours is required as necessary to fulfill responsibility as the safety leader to investigate accidents, train associates, lead meetings, etc.
  • Must have the ability to travel.


Physical Requirements:
The ability to work in a normal manufacturing environment to include:  sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time; climbing stairs; operating various standard office equipment; carrying paper documents/files; reaching; bending; crawling; speaking on the telephone; wearing required personal protection gear (i.e. hearing, eye and foot protection); tolerating loud noise (maximum of 95 dB); tolerating extreme heat, cold and dusty environment.
