Safety Manager

Responsible for developing and maintaining the company safety program across all company locations.  This position is responsible for coordinating efforts surrounding the following: organizational safety, safety compliance, safety inspections, accident investigations, employee training, DOT records compliance, monthly reporting and additional projects as needed. 


  • Develops and implements safety programs to effectively prevent, reduce and eliminate risk related to occupational injuries and illnesses while promoting employee and management involvement
  • Works and communicates effectively with management to implement and maintain safety policies, procedures, programs and effectively establish a safety culture at each location
  • Conducts routine safety audits, identifies risks and works with management to implement an effective solution
  • Actively participates in accident investigations including documentation, performing root cause analysis, providing solutions for accident prevention and works and communicates effectively with management to ensure implementation and corrective action
  • Responsible for pulling and analyzing data / safety metrics and reporting key information to management
  • Audit and reviews monthly driver logs and violations in compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations
  • Responsible for maintaining up to date records of federal medical cards, vision examinations and annual certification of violations
  • Reports all workers’ compensation claims to the insurance company and notifies insurance company of any potential concerns
  • Coordinates return to work and light duty assignments for employees with restrictions
  • Serves as a resource through participation in the company’s risk management team, notifying employees of safety information, answering employees’ safety related questions and providing guidance and support
  • Partners with management to complete Account Safety Analysis at customer accounts and uses the data as a tool for training and accident prevention
  • Develops, implements and conducts safety training in alignment with company and OSHA compliance
  • Enforces company and OSHA regulations through training, education, facility audits and inspections
  • Partners with workers’ compensation broker, as well as local, state and federal agencies to enhance the company’s safety program
  • May be required to flex hours to support all areas of the business
  • May be required to travel to other locations as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned by management


  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work well independently and in the context of team environments
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality and integrity
  • Language skills allow the employee to write documents such as safety policies and procedures
  • Must have knowledge of safety and compliance regulations under OSHA, DOT and FMCSA
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and mental concentration are necessary for accurately performing tasks and tolerating frequent interruptions
  • Must be able to interact with employees on all levels
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with company policies, practices and within the law
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence and persuade in order to achieve desired outcomes


  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, related field or equivalent experience required
  • Experience of three (3) to five (5) years in a safety or environmental health and safety role required
  • Experience in a distribution and/or sales environment preferred
