Georgia-Pacific is hiring a Safety & Health Specialist at our Alabama River Cellulose (ARC) location. This position reports to the Safety & Health Manager. As one of six world-class mills in the GP Cellulose business, Alabama River Cellulose is a fully integrated pulp mill producing specialty fluff and market pulp for a variety of high-end uses and converting technologies. We are also manufacture quality hardwood and softwood pulps, knowns as Golden Isles Fluff.  Our products are used in applications ranging from paper products, diapers, hygiene products, and specialty applications including textiles, pharmaceuticals, food, paints and plastic molding components. Since 2010, Alabama River Cellulose invested over $200 million in capital improvements. About 90% of the mill’s energy is from renewable resources or bio-mass and the mill is a net seller of electrical power. A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
* Provide leadership and direction to achieve the safety & health vision through management commitment and employee ownership. 
* Ensure the facility safety vision remains evergreen, describes the vision of a better state and that employees objectives are connected to the vision.
* Facilitate the organization’s safety & health ownership through integration of the safety & health management system.
* Assist with the development and utilization of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards. 
* Assist employees in aligning to a vision of lower risk tolerance / preference.
* Assist facility leadership with the development of short and long-term safety & health objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that identify critical hazards, prioritize and mitigate risks.
* Assist with the evaluation, interpretation, and compliance with safety and health laws, regulations and permits as it relates to the operation of the facility.
* Provide a good foundation and solid understanding of Georgia-Pacific safety and health standards and all OSHA and Federal and State regulations.
* Manage the mill industrial hygiene programs.  These elements include HazCom, respiratory protection, asbestos, radiation and industrial hygiene monitoring.
* Facilitate the development, improvement, and implementation of training systems and effectively conduct training to the mill population of over 300 employees.
* Supports the process safety and chemical process safety programs
* Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
* Demonstrated ability to interact and excel in a team environment
* Working knowledge of OSHA and compliance regulations.
* Knowledgeable of Risk Management concepts and tools.
* Ability to rotate with other team members to provide support on weekends and holidays

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:
* A Bachelor’s degree in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or other safety technical field OR two (2) or more years post-secondary education in a Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or other safety technical field
* Five (5) years safety & health experience in industrial or manufacturing or public sector safety experience
* Experience in Microsoft Office Software (Access – database creation/tracking and reporting, Excel – sorting data and creating tables, Outlook – scheduling, Word – document creation/editing and PowerPoint – presentation creation/editing)


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:
* Participation in GP’s Entry Level Professional program
* Experience and knowledge of PSM covered processes
* ASP, GSP, CSP, CIH or equivalent certification
* Experience in heavy manufacturing and/or chemical processes in a pulp & paper facility
* Experience in managing injuries and illnesses
* Supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
