Job Summary:
The Health & Safety Specialist will use established procedures and work under general supervision to implement and maintain company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.

This role is involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and implements environmental, health and safety initiatives. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. 

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations
  • Create, maintain, and update safety and environmental procedures
  • Prepare record keeping reports required by permits and regulatory agencies
  • Conduct safety audits, job hazard analysis, safety committee meetings, accident investigations
  • Perform weekly site checks for proper storage, labeling, disposal of hazardous waste and materials and maintain inspection log sheets
  • Practical application of standard EHS concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Track leading and lagging safety key process indicators
  • Advise management on accident-prevention and safety enhancements
  • Perform ergonomic assessments
  • Work with management to develop and implement safety solutions
  • Coordinate safety training programs
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation and other safety program training
  • Keep current with changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization
  • Participate as a member of Crane’s emergency response team
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervisor or management
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of relevant work experience in the EHS field.
  • Knowledge: Excellent working knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal EHS regulations, codes and worker’s compensation laws
  • Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to conduct stand up presentations and facilitate training for all employees. Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external contacts.  Attention to detail, great observation skills. Excellent working knowledge of Windows based software programs such as Word and Excel
  • Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety Management, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health or equivalent degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
  • 30-Hour OSHA General Industry Certification
        

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes
  • Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary
  • Standing: 35% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work
  • Sitting: 65% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work 
  • Lifting (in pounds): up to 40 pounds 
  • Pushing (in pounds): up to 40 pounds 
  • Mental/Visual: Use of Industrial Hygiene equipment, computer, calculator, etc. 
  • Workspace (line, cube, etc): Cubical/Desk
