Safety & Health Coordinator

The position will be filled at a Safety & Health Coordinator or Senior Safety & Health Coordinator level, based on incumbent's education/certification and knowledge, skills and abilities.

As a Safety and Health Coordinator, you’ll be an important part of building the next generation of transformational safety leadership and compliance.

The Safety Coordinator is passionate about leading a proactive safety culture of continuous learning and world-class compliance and works at all levels of the organization in leading others to own and improve their own safety practices. The incumbent works in the field with crews and partners with employees to coach and model best practices that support their work. EF 50% Audits and Improvements:
Provide field presence with employees and supervisors to support and advance Human Performance Improvement and Operational Excellence initiatives and to audit regulatory/safety compliance, conduct on-the-job health and safety inspections and site audits to evaluate safe work practices and techniques. 

Collect, analyze, and communicate safety and incident trends, performance, and ideas for improvement.  Conduct or assist in timely incident analysis investigations in response to safety concerns, close calls, property damage and industrial injuries and illnesses.  Research, develop and recommend solutions and track resolution.  Assist in the facilitation of the Fitness for Duty program.  Assist, or review and evaluate, confined space locations, conduct sound level surveys yearly, evaluate work locations for proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage. 

EF 30% Provide continuous learning opportunities: 
Assist, or proactively champion, advancement of Human Performance Improvement, Operational Excellence, Safety Training, Incident Analysis and Supervisor Safety Audit programs to ensure their success and relevance.  Engage with employees to deliver programs and training that create awareness, motivation and accountability for safe work behaviors and provides strategies and tools to employees to develop and maintain a learning culture that produces a safe working environment. 

Assist and/or coach business unit leaders and employees on proactive formal communication around safety and performance.  Coordinate, schedule, and/or instruct safety-training including course curriculum and materials. Oversee the tracking and reporting of employee safety training records. 

EF 20% Promote and ensure compliance:
Administer the District's safety policies, standards, guidelines and procedures (senior level incumbents are responsible to develop and implement same), supporting compliance with all rules and regulations of the various governmental agencies. Research and provide support in the interpretation of federal, state, and local safety regulations including OSHA/DOSH requirements. 

Regularly lead Safety Committee and Unit Safety meetings and attend Centralized Safety, Staff, and Department meetings.  Assist in the development of abatement strategies for hazardous material abatement projects and coordinate with District's Environmental Coordinator to ensure hazardous disposal requirements are met.   Review and develop safety and health documents such as Job Safety Analysis, Hot Work Permits, Confined Space Permits, etc.

Post-Secondary Education:
AA Degree or certification in Safety or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Typically requires two years' (senior level requires three years') experience in commercial, industrial or field safety.  Experience in the utility industry (electric, water, and/or telecom) is preferred.  Individuals with safety certifications are also preferred. 

544 A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire).  A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.  

Pursuant to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, Chelan County Public Utility District #1 conducts background screening of personnel who have access to the District's critical physical and/or cyber assets.

Level I hiring range:
$67,280 - $84,100 and Senior hiring range $79,360 - $99,200
