Safety Coordinator

Gage Brothers in Sioux Falls, SD operates through 4 core values:  Integrity, Quality, Safety and Leadership.  We are seeking a Safety Coordinator whose job will be to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations but also to build on our safety culture and encourage continued personal dedication to working safely. 

Working closely under our Human Resources & Safety Manager, this person will spend most of their time in our concrete manufacturing plant educating employees, conducting training/certification classes, conducting internal safety audits and co-leading our safety committee G.H.O.S.T. (Gage Health & Occupational Safety Team).

Tasks include:

  • Conducting inspections/audits and making recommendations for improvement
  • Developing/implementing corrective measures 
  • Researching OSHA 1910 regulation changes:  review, update, maintain safety manual and SDS program Coordinating with occupational clinic in administration of return to work/transitional duty programs 
  • Providing basic first aid/transport employees to medical facilities as needed.

Office time is about 40% of the job.  Paperwork required includes:

  • Filing Workers’ Compensation claims 
  • Documenting detailed incident reports based on investigations and employee reports
  • Writing weekly Toolbox Talk based on relevant safety issues and prevention communication
  • Maintaining OSHA logs and meet all reporting/filing deadlines
  • Recording/ensuring completion of ongoing employee training and testing

A qualified candidate will possess the following requirements:

  • Associate’s degree and two years’ of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record, and be an insured driver.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with ability to learn new software
  • Ability to apply basic first aid to injured employee.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Preferred skills (but not necessary):

  • OSHA 30-hour training preferred.
  • Working knowledge of workers’ compensation processes a plus.
  • Bilingual:  English & Spanish

This position predominately works in the manufacturing plant which can be inside or outside in hot, cold, dusty or noisy environments.  Safety/steel toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses and hearing protections are required when working in the plant.
