Safety Coordinator

Edison Power Constructors, Inc., a division of PLH Group, Inc. is a leading provider of high voltage transmission, substation and distribution construction and maintenance services across North America and one of the newest UNION power line construction firms. We are currently seeking an experienced project based Safety Coordinator for distribution line maintenance and underground work in the greater Los Angeles Basin. 

Job Description:
The successful candidate will assist the project team in monitoring and coordinating company safety programs and regulatory compliance on the assigned project. Activities would include training and monitoring Edison Power Constructors’ and subcontractor employees. Daily activities may include New Employee Safety Orientation, safety audits, behavior base safety observations, JHA, Job Briefing, specialty safety training, reporting, and internal communications. Safety Coordinators serve as the company representation for OSHA compliance and inspections. Position is available immediately. This position currently reports directly to the Company Safety Director. 

Required Duties:

  • Advises personnel regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure zero injuries and regulatory compliance for both overhead and URD systems.
  • Conducts routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections of company work sites and office facilities
  • Works in a teaming environment to develop meaningful recommendations to improve/correct unsafe work practices and conditions and provides necessary safety training to improve safety performance
  • Conducts Job Briefing reviews during site visits.
  • Responds to emergency situations and participates in incident investigations
  • Monitors the implementation of all safety related corrective actions and program enhancements.

Job Requirements:

  • Two-year Associates or higher degree in Occupational Health & Safety or similar degree from an accredited university or learning institution with at least 3 years of working experience in utility construction or a combination of education and work experience that would provide appropriate level experience in this field. CUSP preferred.
  • Background in overhead and underground power line construction work required.
  • Current driver’s license with a good record over the past 3 years required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to relocate to other western U.S. states highly desired.
  • Certification in safety-related discipline, i.e. CUSP, ASP, etc. or equivalent related safety experience desired.
  • Solid administrative capabilities.
  • Experience in Powerline and/or construction industry and with union or collective bargaining employees preferred.
