Safety and Compliance Manager

Access World is a global metals warehousing and logistics business. The principle activity is the provision of London Metal Exchange (LME) warehousing and associated services to traders, producers and consumers of base metals. In addition to the LME business, Access World is also active and growing within warehousing and value add services for ferro alloys and minor metals.

Access World has its Head Office in Zug, Switzerland and operates in various regions in semi-autonomous offices with their own corporate functions including business development, finance and operations.  Within the USA the regional head office is Stamford with additional offices in Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit, Houston & Los Angeles.

We are seeking a Safety and Compliance Manager to ensure the work place meets all safety expectations and actively support occupational health ands afety programs for the company.

Primary duties include the following: 

  • Oversee and participate inthe development of various safety training and employee awareness programs, including safety training, refresher safety training and hazardous material training;
  • Coordinate all safety and quality initiatives throughout the company to include training, enforcement, investigations etc.;
  • Control unsafe working conditions through employee engagement,safety procedures and education of the team;
  • Ensure that the Illness and Injury PreventionProgram (“IIPP") is implemented and safety standards enforced at all locations;
  • Lead the Safety Committee Program and ensure regular meetings and team collaboration occurs;
  • Perform site safety audits to identify all non-compliance incidents and ensure that non-compliance incidents are addressed;
  • Review and update safety program, procedures and training as needed;
  • Monitor the effectiveness of training and employee awareness programs and link training completion/performance to safety/business metrics;
  • Oversee Incident/Accident Investigation Program to prevent the recurrence of incidents and to ensure incidents and best practices are shared across the warehouses;
  • Lead, track, and review investigations on operational related claims and coordinate preventative measures (i.e. corrective action plan, recommend protocol updates, etc.);
  • Provide budget and forecasting recommendations in relation to safety and compliance programs, training, etc.;
  • Coordinate with exchange compliance teams in regard to the operational components of exchange compliance(i.e. LME& COMEX/CME); and
  • Other duties and projects as assigned. 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related program; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of related experience in Occupational Safety and Health Programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of state and federal Health and Safety regulations including OSHA, DOT, etc.
  • This role is required to be available to handle facility related emergencies
  • Should possess a passion for improving safety standards and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to research training, safety and quality topics and make concise cost -effective recommendations for improvement
  • Effective communication – both written and oral, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and  strategic thinker, with the ability to understand big picture
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing and shifting priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Travel is required (extensively at times)
