Regional Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Location:  ESCO’s world headquarters (Portland, OR); may also be possible to operate from another ESCO facility in the U.S.

Safety at ESCO is truly a core value. The Regional EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring ESCO operations’ EHS professionals have the support and tools to meet the company’s high standards for safety and health. 

The Regional EHS Manager develops, teaches and implements systems and programs that continuously improve health and safety performance, and ensures operations are in compliance with applicable regulations and ESCO’s health and safety systems and strategies; monitors, assess, and communicates emerging health and safety legislative/regulatory issues and develops new programs to address them. This position is also responsible for supporting designated sites in implementing the ESCO EHS Management System, eliminating or reducing regulatory violations, and leading/authoring the development of health and safety programs, procedures and standards. 

Job Duties: 

  • Lead, maintain and continuously grow the behavioral and cultural programs currently in place
  • Develop and implement corporate health and safety compliance systems and programs
  • Support existing site and region health and safety management programs, and new or ongoing program and initiative strategies
  • Site EHS support including on-site, hands-on support for sites based on resource needs and/or project or issue specific demands for corporate level expertise (travel up to 30% annually may be required)
  • Represent the company to state and federal agencies for health and safety issues, projects, and other issues as required
  • Provide regulatory guidance for all health and safety media to manufacturing facilities and ensure compliance systems are adequate to track and document compliance status
  • Actively monitor and assess factory health and safety compliance and performance
  • Ensure noncompliance findings are addressed and corrected where appropriate
  • Effectively communicate the health and safety goals, objectives, performance expectations, and metrics
  • Prepare strategic and tactical health and safety plans for sites and businesses that align with company objectives
  • Mentor, train, and develop health and safety employees
  • Develop and implement management systems to ensure seamless leadership for health and safety activities

 

Required Education & Experience:   

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field is ideal; will also consider High School diploma (or equivalent) with 15+ years’ experience in the health and safety field with a CSP (or equivalent) certification
  • Ten+ years’ experience in the health and safety field
  • Five+ years’ as a Leader/Manager in an industrial environment
  • Previous support and/or oversight responsibility for multiple sites
  • OSHA fluency required; experience in international safety regulatory environments desired
  • Lead Expert experience developing, implementing, and coaching health and safety management systems; experience working directly with operations management and safety professionals with risk assessment, incident investigation, self-assessment, audit, behavior/culture programs, etc.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 30% (domestic and international)
  • Must be authorized to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship 

 

Certifications/Licenses:  Certified Safety Professional certification desired


Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:    

  • Lead Audit experience in a multisite health and safety audit program desired
  • Direct management of health and safety personnel desired
  • Senior level development and implementation of behavioral and cultural strategies
  • Prefer fluency in high risk technical disciplines such as crane safety, lockout/tag-out, confined space, working at heights, electrical safety, foundry operations, industrial hygiene, etc.
  • MSHA experience desired
  • Strong coaching, influencing and communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills including development of programs, policies, and standards
