Product Safety Compliance Specialist

Dover Chemical Corporation, a subsidiary of ICC Industries, a leader for over 50 years in the international and domestic trading, manufacture, and marketing of chemicals, plastics, and pharmaceuticals has an opening for Product Compliance Specialist at its Dover, OH manufacturing facility. 

Dover Chemical Corporation is a leading producer of specialty chemicals used as plastic additives and also in metalworking and lubricant industries (alkylphenols, chlorinated paraffins, polymer additives, liquid and solid antioxidants (including organophosphites), flame retardants, additives for water-based and oil-based metalworking fluids and drilling fluid additives).

Product Compliance Specialist: 
Is based at the Dover, OH location and is primarily responsible for assisting in the development, organization and execution of a Product Safety Management System (programs and system requirements, program processes, goals and objectives, deliverable work products, schedules and electronic filing system).

The position is responsible for supporting the global compliance of Hazard Communication, chemical reporting and other regulations related to the chemical composition of products.  This includes authoring Safety Data Sheets and related label content for Dover Chemical’s products at both the Dover, OH and Hammond, IN facilities.


  • Minimum 2-year Associates Degree in Environmental / Safety / Regulatory Compliance, Industrial Hygiene or related field. 
  • BS Degree preferred.
  • MSDGen software understanding, knowledge and proficiency to include: data input, system organization & utilization, data retrieval and training others on the software usage.
  • 1 - 3+ years’ experience in MSDgen regulatory system administration, product compliance, product stewardship or EH&S field in Chemical related manufacturing industry.
  • Previous experience with product compliance and product stewardship is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in compliance systems and related software application in a global organization.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of TSCA, Product Compliance, GHS/SDS, SDS, DOT/IMDG, and CAS Registry numbering
  • Strong interpersonal skills, essential in dealing with people at all levels and in a variety of functions, with the ability to build business partnerships across functional groups and lead a project or technical team to achieve positive results.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner and proven experience writing detailed technical reports.
  • Computer skills are a must with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, plus extensive understanding and familiarity with SDS software system, preferably MSDgen.
  • Some occasional domestic travel (automobile and/or air) will be required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.


  • Author, monitor, & update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) using the MSDGen software system.
  • Utilize existing MSDGen software as a database to assemble and organize product data and key information.
  • Apply Product Safety regulations to Dover Chemical products.
  • Support creation and maintenance of data required for compliance to chemical and hazard communication regulations
  • Effectively interact with both internal technical resources and outside consultants for strategic input related to product management.
  • Ensure customer new product approval data requests and significant changes to product labels and SDSs are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Determine appropriate hazard classification and SDS phrases for products
  • Ensure compliance with market-specific applications in sensitive end-use applications.
  • Proactively monitor specific legislation and industry product stewardship trends
  • Identify and communicate business opportunities and threats arising from current and future legislation in line with business or company-wide objectives.
  • Serve as Dover’s Product Safety internal resource for MSDgen, SDS’s, Product Labeling and product regulatory information requests from Sales Representatives and Customers.
  • Collaborate with Technical, Operations and Sales to ensure product work family principles and practices throughout the product life cycle.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of new products, government regulations and requirements

Typically works in an office environment with a normal range of temperature, chemical odor, and noise level; but will be required to perform various tasks in the manufacturing plant, laboratory, and other areas of the site premises.  Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet/humid conditions, dust and outdoor weather. Requires the ability to climb stairs, lift or move up to 30 pounds occasionally.  May need to climb ladders and examine work that may be conducted in high, precarious elevations.
