As a Principal Environmental Specialist at our Newark/Hebron facility, we are seeking a professional with high technical competency who leads compliance strategies for Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Systems. This position influences other process improvement activities at the plant level with engineering support through the use of complex problem solving to ensure the Site stays environmentally compliant.

 Serves as authority in a broad scope of areas involving engineering and compliance. Position purpose also includes leading technical discussions and providing guidance and input to the Polycarbonates Regional Safety Council as the Newark Site Safety Council Representative and Regional Safety Council Member. Additionally the position will act as a global business continuity auditor for internal facilities and external (tollers and suppliers) entities to assist in determining the level of risk to which Covestro LLC may be exposed. Attends external functions as identified by NAFTA Lobbyist to support and influence Covestro LLC interests.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the Newark Compounding Facility Environmental Compliance Programs and communicates compliance requirements to all levels of the organization
  • Participates as BU member of Global Loss Prevention Committee.
  • Leads environmental control improvement projects including critical compliance systems and devices.
  • Advises HSEQ and Plant Leaders in compliance strategies.
  • Meets and negotiates with Federal, State and Local Environmental compliance agencies including the modeling and authoring of permits to operate.
  • Participates as a member of the NAFTA Regional Safety Council by guiding and directing the implementation of safe operating behaviors at all PCS sites.
  • Acts as a member of the global GMP advisory team to define GMP requirements for Covestro LLC.
  • Maintains PFMEA and Control Plans in support of GMP Compliance to meet all customer expectations.
  • Leads the Internal Assessment Program at the Newark Compounding Facility and acts as an audit member to support the global ISO9001 certification, review business continuity risk and compliance for internal Covestro LLC facilities, tolling manufacturers and external suppliers.
  • Meets directly with customers conducting product audits.
  • Assists in the investigation of complaint and quality nonconformance resolutions.
  • Provides technical expertise and innovative ideas for process improvements.
  • Leads capital projects as needed for environmental sustainability and compliance
  • Serves as a global team member for the technical transfer of products(both nationally and internationally).
  • Acts in a support role for Covestro LLC Lobbyist to communicate and influence Covestro LLC interests within the NAFTA region.
  • Facilities interaction and contracts with 3rd Party Environmental Consultancies
  • Represents Covestro's environmental interests in various trade organizations in Ohio



  • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience in an environmental related role OR a Masters with a minimum of 4 years of experience in an environmental related role.
  • Education in Engineering field or Environmental Science preferred.
  • Experience with environmental permitting required.
  • Experience with environmental auditing is a plus!
