Outside Sales Representative - Northern New Jersey and New York

HazTek Inc. is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to effectively support the Northern New Jersey and New York construction safety market, there is a need for a “local” outside sales representative to engage in mass prospecting, sales calls and local networking to help fill the Northeast’s pipeline with NJ/NY-based “A” prospects, customers and opportunities. 

Position reports to the National Sales Manager.

Income Potential: $60,000 to $100,000+ (1st year estimate.  Includes bonus and commission) 


  • Increase revenue throughout HazTek’s Greater New York Region.
  • Provide Exceptional customer service throughout the lifespan of all customers.

 Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities: 

  • Acquiring new (“A”) customers. Handling all aspects of the process such as:
  • Cold calls
  • Lead generation and follow-up
  • Sales appointments
  • Proposal writing
  • Contract processing
  • Customer service
  • Networking events
  • Focused sales efforts on New Jersey and New York-based contractors and companies. Particularly companies involved in construction, maintenance & operations, engineering, facility management, power generation, dredging and environmental remediation activities.
  • Responsible for managing existing clients within the territory. This involves growing revenue with individual customers both horizontally (expand the services they use) and vertically (more revenue from existing services). The territory is currently focused in NJ/NY but opportunities may present themselves throughout all parts of the US.
  • Identify current market opportunities and changing customer needs
  • Promote and present new HazTek services to clients and prospects
  • Involvement with trade shows, industry associations and events
  • Help develop and support marketing materials and initiatives
  • Visiting job sites and customer offices

Skills, Education, Experience: 

  • Proven success in direct sales (required)
  • At least 3 years of direct experience as an EH&S professional (required), preferably within the construction industry
  • Familiarity with industrial environments, construction and construction safety requirements within these markets. Experience selling a product or service to these market segments. (required)
  • Can be an OSHA-authorized instructor of the Construction Outreach training programs OR have the skills and experience needed to obtain said authorization a plus
  • A continuing education degree such as an Associate’s r Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Familiarity with managing a sales territory and/or multiple accounts (preferred)
  • Professional safety certifications (i.e. STS, OHST, CHST, ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.) a huge plus
  • Computer skills (required, MS Office)
  • Above average written communication skills
  • Engaging personality and high energy level
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Professional demeanor, conduct, and appearance
  • Superior planning, organization and time management skills

Office & Hours: 

  • Standard office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Mon through Fri.
  • Periodic nights and weekends are required as business needs dictate
  • Employee will work from a home office

Travel Requirements: 

  • Employee will travel to prospect/customer locations throughout the Northeast Region
  • Overnight travel is expected as necessary to properly sell to and service the region
  • Out of town stays for up to a week will be necessary on occasion
