Occupational Safety & Health Manager

JOB SUMMARY:
Leads and positively influences an efficient, high quality Occupational Health and Safety Program and culture for Blue Diamond Growers’ team members and external organizations under contract. Ensures compliance with responsibilities imposed by health and safety legislation, while maximizing and promoting health of all team members, as well as reducing the risk of cases of occupational injuries.

Champions best practices in occupational health and safety within the Blue Diamond Growers (BDG) organization balanced with the other key focus areas of qualityservice, and production results all supported by our people. Leads the site security team to ensure the security of the campus and team members within the campus. The Occupational Safety & Health Manager provides enterprise-wide leadership and models the BDG Values of Act with Integrity; Deliver Quality Everyday; Work as Partners; Innovate! and Play to Win.

JOB DESCRIPTION:                                                                              

  • Leads the site safety and health programs to ensure compliance and delivery of risk assessment and risk control, leads by example and influence to ensure management commitment and employee ownership, ensures proper training for all impacted team members with an ongoing emphasis on continuous improvement.  
  • Leads the campus security team ensuring systems and execution of life safety systems, emergency preparedness protocols, site emergency response team, and overall campus grounds and buildings are monitored and protected at all times.   
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and audit the delivery of occupational health (OH) and safety services provided to BDG by contracted third party administrators. Ensure a high value service, customer satisfaction, and improve and promote best practices in OH and safety based on research, evidence and evaluation, as well as exploiting potential for margin enhancement.
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate policies and strategies for health protection and surveillance of workers to meet regulatory standards.
  • Partner with operation’s site leaders and their teams to develop their capability, motivating and mentoring them to meet the current and future requirements of BDG’ safety culture and programs.
  • Work in partnership with management and appropriate agencies and professionals to provide expert guidance, develop and implement and evaluate policies and strategies when OH input is required.
  • Plan, develop and evaluate methods and processes for gathering, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data. Communicate trends and advise action plans to meet statutory requirements for health protection as well as enhance safety performance.
  • Partner with Third-Party Administrators to ensure effective training, advice, health surveillance, and investigations of occupational health cases.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing OH and safety strategies in conjunction with the Sr. Manager, of Safety, Risk and Health and Plant Site Director.
  • Manage the department  budget to optimize the services provided.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS                                                                    

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years of Occupational Health and Safety management experience.
  • Proficient computer skills – MS Office.
  • Analyze, interpret and present data to varying audiences inside and outside of the organization.
  • Firm understanding of Federal and California Occupational Health regulations.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to prioritize workload, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and maintain high quality of work. 
  • Ability to build effective relationships internally and externally resulting in a safe work environment at all levels of the plant.
  • Must be able to work any shift based on operational needs.  This role will be primarily on day shift with the expectation that coverage occurs on other shifts as needed, and on call as needed for emergency situations. 
     

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • Occupational Health or Nursing degree preferred
  • Specialist practitioner in Corporate Health

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors (Required), Masters preferred
