We have an opportunity in North East Pennsylvania/ New Jersey area for a Loss Control Representative. As a Loss Control Representative, you will be trained on-the-job and learn fundamental functions of a Loss Control Specialist as well as basic functions of claims and underwriting.
And under the supervision of a loss control staff member, the Loss Control Representative will represent the company in communications and meetings with customers and insurance brokers/broker Loss Control representatives. The goal of the incumbent in this position is to become a Loss Control Specialist within 12-18 months. Once training has completed, the Loss Control Representative will have knowledge of a wide range of occupational operations; employee exposures to workplace hazards; knowledge of and ability to execute appropriate controls on exposures; and be familiar with applicable codes, laws and regulations; and be assigned a territory to provide loss control services for assigned clients.

As a Loss Control Representative, you will leverage your knowledge and experience to make recommendations that will improve employee safety & health.

  • Successfully complete training and development program including quizzes, training classes developed by LC, claims and UW
  • Become familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within LC field, as well as best practices in occupational safety & health.
  • Review essential manuals and documents including A.M. Best’s Loss Control Manual and A.M. Best’s Underwriting Guide.
  • Travel alongside BHHC Loss Control Specialists in the field as established by the program.
  • Attend underwriting and claims meeting both internally and externally
  • Attend Workers Compensation and OSHA training classes on dates determined by manager.
  • Manage assigned workload for regular Loss Control service. This can be completed by:
  • Assist insured’s management in identifying key objectives to improve safety and loss control
  • Provide consulting and training services to support the account, accomplishing loss control objectives
  • Monitor loss development of their assigned book of business to deploy Loss Control resources appropriately
  • Conduct surveys and service visits to assigned accounts
  • Conduct technical training for individuals and groups
  • Participate with the Loss Control team to develop and give presentations to clients, underwriters, other BHHC employees, brokers and LC vendors
  • Prepare written management reports as requested for assigned workload.
  • Must be able to explain reports and communicate findings verbally

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university. Degrees in related fields (Safety/Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Life Sciences, etc.) preferred.
  • LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write and critique detailed reports that describe the operations, exposures and controls of a wide array of industries.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
