Under direction of the Program Manager for Laboratory, Radiation, X-ray, Laser, Field and Industrial Safety, this position coordinates the Industrial Safety program. This position serves as the EH&S coordinator of the Shop Safety program, and supports the campus Shop Safety Committee. This position conducts facility, process safety, and electrical safety reviews to promote a safe workplace and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This is an advanced EHS Level 4, Specialist position and at this level possess a specialized, technical or functional expertise within the area of assignment and may coordinate assign work, and review work products of lower level staff. EHS Level 4 staff are typically assigned significant responsibilities above journey level and often exercise independent judgment in performance of all duties.  



• Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, or similar discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience with more than 5 years of relevant job experience.

• Demonstrated experience using Uniform Plumbing and Building Codes, National Electric Code and California Health and Safety Code.

• Demonstrated experience interpreting OSHA or Cal/OSHA regulations

• Experience conducting and coordinating industrial safety audits, investigations and evaluations and achieve necessary corrective action in a timely manner.

• Experience creating and conducting training and educational programs.

• Demonstrated technical writing skills to develop detailed compliance reports, procedures, interpret results of data and correspondence.

• Skill to recognize, control and evaluate occupational and safety and health hazards including experience using appropriate monitoring equipment.

• Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, convey technical information, interpret and advise on regulations and laws, create and conduct training and educational programs, and develop detailed compliance reports and correspondence.

• Experience using computer and software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and smart phones.



• Certified Safety Professional Certification, Associate in Risk Management, or California Registered Professional Engineer

• Experience interpreting new regulations and determining their applicability to campus operations and devising strategies and procedures for compliance.

• Professional experience in academic environment

• Experience with leading and mentoring technical staff

• Experience reading and interpreting drawings, plans specifications, technical journals and facility standards.
