Health & Safety Specialist

Supports the Cushman & Wakefield Global Occupier Services Google account based in Mountain View, California and reports to the EHS Manager. This role will handle the implementation and monitoring of health and safety policies, procedures and best practices. Requires constant presence within facilities to ensure best safety practices are being implemented. Partners with the Facility Management Team in creating and maintaining a positive and safe workplace. Majority field role, some office work as required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITES:
Applies practices to develop, implement and manage health & safety processes and systems. Develops best practices to drive a best in class Safety culture.

Facility Compliance:

  • Monitors federal, state, and local regulations (CAL OSHA) for impact and effective application for Cushman & Wakefield and Google.
  • Identifies, assesses, and monitors workplace hazards (including but not limited to, chemical, physical, biological) that could be present in the work area;
  • Recommends improvements to minimize hazard potential and working with area personnel to find reasonable methods to implement improvements.
  • Conducts regular audits for identification of facility/jobsite hazards and risks to prevent injuries, spills or other H&S impacts and to ensure compliance with customer-specific safety standards and government regulations.
  • Communicates and supports Google’s EHS policies and performance to internal stakeholders.


Contractor Safety:

  • Oversees the Cushman & Wakefield Contractor/Supplier EHS Qualification system.
  • Monitors and evaluates contractor safety including, but not limited to, construction related projects (cranes, rigs, etc.) and confined spaces.
  • Reviews contractor pre-task plans and JSA's and provide feedback as necessary.


Processes/Training:

  • Recommends approaches to create safer processes and continuous improvement.
  • Reviews, develops, and implements Health & Safety processes and coordinates with Property and Facility Managers.
  • Assists with coordination, development and delivery of safety training and education programs for employees either by use of GVC or in person training.
  • Train and assists (Area Managers, safety team members, etc.) to complete (Audits, Behavior Based Safety reviews, etc.)
  • Assists with investigating incidents to identify the root cause and prevent future reoccurrence. Evaluates the effectiveness of corrections to remedy incidents.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor of Science degree is required. Specialization in Occupational Safety and Health, or Environmental Health; is preferred.
  • Requires 5 years of experience within the Health/Safety profession.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of EHS management systems.
  • Broad knowledge of Occupational Health/Safety regulations (OSHA/NFPA).
  • Experience within Facilities Management (FM) is desired, but not required.
  • Experience with identification and abatement of occupational hazards.
  • Strong communication skills and able to collaborate with others.
  • Ability to analyze and develop recommendations utilizing problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and timelines for large and small scale projects.
  • Ability to travel to Google sites in the California Bay Area.
  • Candidates with the ability to obtain Professional Certifications (ASP, CSP, etc.) are desirable.
