Position Purpose
This is an Environmental Health and Safety Professional level position at the Deicing facility in Avery Island, LA with initial focus on providing support to the EHS Sr. Professional in all areas of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) while continuing to grow skills of this discipline. This position provides EHS leadership to location employees, management and the community through education and pro-active initiatives to reduce risk associated with EHS activities and to ensure compliance with internal as well as external regulatory requirements and initiatives.

This position would :

  • Participate on a plant management team by developing technical leadership and supporting Cargill Deicing Production Facility on EHS issues. 
  • Responsible for assisting with Environmental Compliance and moving the facility beyond compliance by reducing environmental impact from energy use.
  • Develop skills and assist the EHS Professional in the management of plant health and safety issues, including employee training, plant audits, safe work permits, safety projects, environmental projects, agency communication and corporate reporting. Interpret government safety and environmental regulations so standard operating procedures and policies can be implemented that are in line with a large company.
  • Assist in regulatory agency and internal reporting, project management, business unit environmental projects and community environmental activities. 
  • Work with a diverse group of cross - functional areas such as safety and environmental, maintenance, contractors, and operations

Principal Accountabilities:

  • 40% - Support EHS Sr. Professional and other facility leadership by providing coordination, and assist plant operations in EHS compliance by ensuring proper record keeping of requirements. Responsible for reporting obligations as required by local, state, federal and corporate requirements. Provide EHS technical assistance to the facility.
  • 25% - Develop, maintain, and monitor compliance tools at the facility for EHS compliance, and communicate and implement EHS requirements/regulations for the facility to support plant operations and the business unit. Development of a sustainable proactive EHS compliance culture at the location.
  • 10% - Assist and verify thorough pre-job planning for employees and contractors, including, but not limited to documented job safety analyses and procedures, pre-job hazard assessments (PJHA), planning, documenting, and gaining. 
  • 10% - Train plant personnel on EHS subjects and perform internal assessments of EHS compliance systems.
  • 10% - Implement and champion existing programs (BST, HOP, etc.) and help support Decing Technology employees' understanding of them.
  • 5% - Promote Cargill through involvement in community activities and professional organizations. On-call ability outside normal business hours to assist when needed and any other duties as assigned.
     
Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or related Technical field 
  • OR in lieu of the degree: a High School Diploma/GED AND 3+ years’ of EHS experience in an industrial setting 
  • Experience with safety and environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of OSHA/MSHA regulations such as, but not limited to, safety management, process hazard analysis, hazard recognition/control, behavior based safety (BBS) principles and application
  • Experience in Program development and implementation of new or changing regulations
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to be on-call outside normal business hours to assist when needed
  • Ability to travel up to 5%

Preferred

  • 5 Plus years’ experience in the EHS field
  • 3 Plus years’ experience in the EHS field in an industrial setting
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) or Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Negotiations experience with regulatory agencies
  • Six Sigma Kaizen Lean Certification
  • Understanding of basic reliability concepts
  • Experience with BBS process implementation and management
  • Experience with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development and training
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) experience
  • Experience with facility response plans (FRP)
  • Experience with process implementation of EHS Policies and Systems
  • Auditing experience
  • Database application experience (MS Access, Oracle, SAP, etc.)
