Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Professional

Daily responsibilities include: 

  • Partner with plant and operations leadership and serve as a subject matter expert regarding interpretation of federal, state, and local HSE regulations
  • Align corporate and local HSE goals and strategies
  • Lead multi-media environmental compliance including: Water (waste, storm); Waste (hazardous and non-hazardous); Air (internal respiratory and external emissions), etc.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with federal, state and local regulators.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiative regarding HSE policies and programs.
  • Develop and manage department budget.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local HSE regulations.
  • Lead employee training programs regarding HSE behaviors and compliance.
  • Develop and sustain systems to drive compliance, injury reduction, and environmental performance.
  • Coach and counsel Supervisors and Team Leaders.
  • Complete employee evaluations and review with employees bi-annually.
  • Align strong industrial safety goals and implementation for 3 manufacturing sites in the Akron area.
  • Occasional responsibility for NJ Lab and TX manufacturing site.
  • Occasional travel to other sites (less than 5%)
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field strongly preferred. 5+ years of experience in an industrial environment (preferably chemical manufacturing) supporting HSE policies and complying with government regulations required. Must have experience with management systems including OSHAS, RC, and ISO.

Strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations in an industrial setting, preferably in chemicals. Ability to stay current and apply regulations as well as ability to interpret job related written and oral instructions. Extensive knowledge of DOT, IATA, TSCA, and REACH required.

Good verbal and written skills. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a leader and within a team environment. Behave in a professional manner and have a good understanding of proper email etiquette.

Must be able to organize and lead a group of employees towards a common goal. Must also be able to lead and motivate others that are not direct subordinates.

Work Style:
Possess strong organization and implementation skills. Must be proactive in your approach to all issues in order to identify or eliminate potential problem areas. Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated. Must be able to manage your time in an efficient and effective manner.
