Health, Safety & Environmental (EHS) Manager

General Description of the Role:
The HSE Manager is responsible for the implementation and management of Health, Safety, Environment and sustainability systems that will protect people, property and the environment and, as a result, help us achieve a competitive advantage through profitability and efficiency.

Mission/Objectives:
The HSE Manager will work with all departments to identify risk, collaborate on effective risk management solutions, ensure safety, health and environmental standards are being followed and ensure compliance with company, federal, state and local regulations.   

Key Responsibilities and Activities - People Safety:

  • Develop, implement and manage site-wide safety programs, ensuring effective HSE practices, managing hazards and controlling risks.
  • Along with HSE professionals in North and South America, participate in Regional HSE calls and meetings and assist in the creation and implementation of regional and global initiatives.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and prioritizing of safety activities through the identification of potential risks and solutions, development of capital expense requests and management of projects.
  • Conduct job hazard evaluations and analysis and put in place appropriate risk control policies and procedures.
  • Along with plant leadership and independently, conduct HSE inspections, audits and behavioral safety observations.
  • Support equipment installations through the evaluation of safety risks and the provision of risk controlling solutions.
  • Lead accident investigation and drive implementation of the recommendations.
  • Along with integrated management systems lead, actively manage conformance with management system certifications.
     

Environmental Safety:

  • Act as a passionate advocate for sustainability, looking for strategies to minimize resource consumption and waste generation.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and prioritizing of environmental safety and sustainability programs through the identification of potential risks, regulatory compliance mandates and evaluation of existing exposures.
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of all local, state and federal based energy, water and waste compliance activities.
  • Evaluate environmental best practices and make recommendations that drive competitive advantage and/or improve performance through the capital budgeting process to implement.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and other Campari functions on the development and implementation of structures, equipment and production equipment to ensure compliance to environmental strategies.
     

Training & Development: 

  • Develop, implement and facilitate programs to properly train and embed safety capabilities across the site.
  • Maintain tracking documentation of all training activities on site.
  • Provide ad hoc coaching and direction to drive a safety culture.
  • Ensure site leaders are equipped with the ability to coach and develop safety practices within their teams.
     

Cost Control and Project Management: 

  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining safety standards.
  • Manage all related projects, coordinating effectively across functional areas and ensuring on-time, on-target, at or below budget delivery of scheduled outcomes.
      

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Safety or related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred

 

Experience:

  • 5-7 years experience leading safety programs in a distilled spirits manufacturing environment or other process driven manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in beverage alcohol a plus
     

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT (FMCSA and PHMSA), EPA and KYDEP standards and food manufacturing safety standards
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, 45001 and/or OHSAS 18001
  • Ability to develop process and procedures and implement across a number of functions to full adoption
  • Strong project management skills and a proven history of delivering on objectives
  • Solid financial and budgeting skills with experience in developing capital improvement budgets and project recommendations
  • Solid facilitation skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and work collaboratively with others
