Job Responsibilities

Located in Branchburg, NJ.

This role requires a highly motivated, people oriented professional to provide technical and regulatory environmental oversight and support for new products and processes, sites operations and capital projects. Its scope includes projects and programs across environmental areas including air, waste, stormwater, wastewater and chemicals management. This role coordinates and works effectively with a variety of teams including Engineering, Operations, HSES, Research, Product Development and Product Management personnel supporting growth and ongoing business operations to ensure meeting or exceeding regulatory requirements and Air Liquide standards. The Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Engineer develops and implements strategic approaches that drive environmental performance improvement, meet stakeholder needs and provide business value.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:   

  • Works with Global Environmental and Regulatory Manager to evaluate data and create strategic plans for Regulatory Compliance
  • Evaluates the HSES impacts of capital projects, conducts environmental risk assessments, determines applicable regulatory requirements, and assures environmental requirements are implemented
  • Partners with the sites to drive strategic corporate environmental compliance initiatives
  • Improves and manages Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste Management Program, develops and implements best practices to ensure Sites’ compliance 
  • Conducts raw materials assessments to ensure regulatory compliance 
  • Monitors and maintains current knowledge of federal and state legislation, regulations and practices and determines impacts on ALAM operations and business functions 
  • Obtains US air, stormwater and wastewater permits;  and, develops and implements programs to ensure compliance
  • Provides technical direction, guidance and implementation for environmental and regulatory compliance 
  • Develops and implements environmental plans and programs including compliance assurance procedures and standards
  • Identifies upcoming environmental requirements applicable to sites operations; develops and implements compliance programs
  • Develops, communicates and trains on environmental programs, processes, best practices, and tools to assure compliance and improve management systems 
  • Succesfully complete all assigned training


Required Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, Biochemical), Chemistry, Environmental Science or other related Science 
  • 7+ years broad-based (air, water, solid waste, regulatory) environmental experience (consulting or industry)
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in air, wastewater, water, and solid/hazardous waste management systems and controls
  • Experience in interpreting global regulatory requirements  
  • Experience in Environmental management systems implementation 
  • Data management expertise (excel, access, etc.)
  • Demonstrated teamwork, interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to multi-task
  • Self-starter with ability to perform well under pressure and changing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Environmental or  Chemical Engineering or Related Science
  • 7+ years Specialty Chemicals or Pharmaceuticals Industry Environmental and Regulatory experience 
  • Experience working in an empowered organization 
  • Demonstrated ability to learn technical chemical processes quickly in a fast paced, dynamic environment 
  • Environmental professional and industry organizations affiliations 
  • Six Sigma certification or equivalent knowledge
