Facility Safety Coordinator

Position Description:

Based at our Lorton, VA facility, we seek an energetic, dedicated individual who will be responsible for the management of the plant’s health and safety program.

Reporting to the Facility Manager and working in conjunction with the Regional Safety Administrator, the Safety Coordinator oversees regulatory compliance, accident investigation/ documentation and OSHA VPP efforts. This position is responsible for all aspects of safety training including initial new hire and plant safety training, as well as maintaining all training records. Additionally, he/she will continuously monitor the performance and effectiveness of the plant’s health and safety program in the field and make program adjustments as necessary to meet performance and improvement objectives in a safe, productive manner.

Additionally, he/she will assist in outage scheduling, planning / scheduling projects, budget planning for both safety and operations.

Position Requirements: 

  • To be considered for this position, candidate must have an Associate’s Degree (ideally in a safety and health, engineering or science-related area) coupled with 3-5 years Health & Safety experience with a working knowledge of OSHA 1910 regulations. 
  • Operations and Maintenance field experience (preferably in waste-to-energy or power plant facilities), strong verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in MS Office Suite are required. 
  • The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects / programs simultaneously and work well with all levels of the organization are also essential. 
  • Individual must feel comfortable with public speaking, as he or she will be responsible for providing effective health and safety training.
