ESH Coordinator

Environmental Safety & Health Compliance Coordinator

Position Summary:
Implements and maintains all environmental, safety and health maintenance programs and policies to ensure the facility is in compliance with federal, state and local requirements and can comply on-time with all operational permits and assessment programs in a manufacturing environment. Minimize and eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards associated with work practices. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as primary contact for all Federal, State and Local environmental, safety and health agencies
  • Establishes operating policies and procedures to ensure the facility is in compliance with federal, state and local safety   regulations by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation and interpreting standards
  • Implements and enforces adherence to government required safety, health and environmental programs, company initiatives, policies & procedures and advises management on necessary actions
  • Maintains OSHA, KDHE and EPA records in accordance with   regulations
  • Establishes and ensures a company-wide Safety Culture by emphasizing programs and policies that are consistent with company cultural values and a team approach and individual employee responsibility to achieve common safety goals
  • Conducts safety inspections, counsels managers and employees and institutes corrective actions for any violations relating to breach of policies, procedures, rules and/or regulations
  • Conducts routine safety and environmental inspections and   audits to control occupational and environmental hazards
  • Serves as ESH expert resource during safety/accident investigations and environmental incidents; recommends changes to work practices or equipment to minimize or eliminate future safety risks
  • Tracks effectiveness of company safety and environmental programs and presents findings to management as appropriate
  • Leads the facility Safety Committee and provides ESH training and information distribution to committee members
  • Assists in planning changes to physical facility to meet all regulations
  • Locates vendors & evaluates contracts to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Performs employee training as required and ensures the company policies related to training are followed and all federal, state and corporate required training is completed as scheduled
  • Reviews, designs, if necessary, approves/disapproves all new proposed plant changes relating to environmental health and safety activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, or another related field and minimum of 3 years direct related experience. 

Knowledge and experience:

  • Developing and implementing occupational safety, industrial health and environmental programs in a manufacturing environment
  • Preferred ES&H certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM or similar) or in process to acquire Industry recognized certification such as: National Safety Council Advanced Safety Certificate

Thorough knowledge of/Skill to:

  • OSHA, EPA, DOT, State and Local regulations for manufacturing environments
  • Microsoft office basics
  • Lead in a manufacturing environment with emphasis on industrial hygiene activities and environmental, health and safety program management
  • Learn industry-related software
  • Communicate and build work-related organizational relationships
