Position Purpose & Summary:
Ergonomic Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert in ergonomics related factors impacting an employee’s ability to not only to work safely but improve plant efficiency.  Responsible for overall ergonomics program design and implementation across facility.  Focus will be on reducing ergonomic risk factors and muscular skeletal disorders ( MSDS); fully implementing the ergonomic process and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements.  This role leads all ergonomic efforts for a large beef processing facility (over 2,000 employees) located in Dodge City, KS.

Principal Accountabilities:
50% Program Management:

  • Ensure ergonomic strategy plan is in place for long range projects and ensure ergonomics are included in safety plan and alignment with overall location goals.
  • Manage physical demands descriptions (PDD) for all jobs and update as necessary; maintain the ergonomic database current; develop, deploy, and monitor ramp-in and rotation programs.
  • Develop ongoing weekly/monthly reviews to increase awareness and knowledge of ergonomic issues to help line management understand their role in the ergonomic process.
  • Accountable for the education and training of all employees regarding ergonomics program, as well as, advance education for management and ergo monitors.
  • Chairs the Plant Ergonomic Committee, maintains focus and direction

20% Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze injury/illness data to assess trends and identify improvement plans to mitigate causal factors; liaison with Health
  • Services and actively participate in medical management process.
  • Improve ergonomic program that aligns with the facility safety strategy and goals; accountable to implement, direct and deploy ergonomics knowledge and processes for the various ergonomics teams, and plant positions.
  • Actively participate on safety committee(s), incident reviews, and project reviews.
  • Project evaluations for work stations and human factor efficiencies.

20% Risk Assessment:

  • Conduct ergonomic risk assessments;
  • Identify solutions to improve high risk jobs and drive action plans to deliver on results;
  • Proactively monitor proposed and actual changes  to ensure risks are managed appropriately;
  • Partner with various functions in the facility to resolve work orders and management of changes (MOC's) identified as solutions.

10%  Other duties assigned by manager

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or currently enrolled to receive Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the industrial setting (safety, ergo, sports medicine)
  • Strong English literacy skills in writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule as needed to support a multiple shift operation.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications
