Environmental Manager

Environmental Waste/Recycling Manager – LOMPOC, CA - Government

VMX International a leader in environmental solutions is working with a global provider which oversees and manages government Total Waste Management service contracts encompassing an array of on-base environmental waste/recycling service offerings.  Employee will be located on the Air Force Base daily and performing collection once a week.

Key Responsibilities:

The Environmental Manager oversees the environmental and operational performance of Total Waste and Recycle Management Programs. Responsibilities focus on the proper management of all base collection and professional services associated non-hazardous solid/recycling wastes as well communicating with base personnel through verbal and written communication. Major emphasis on the problem solving through the management and collection and recycling of waste.

Expectations:

  • Manage and perform total waste/recycling collection Performance Work Statement Technical Specifications.
  • A Class C California license (Real –ID Compliant)
  • Work with the Recycling facility and management on base coordinate on-base source separation and processing of recyclable commodities and scrap.
  • Ensuring conformance with regulatory standards and government policies governing the proper management of solid waste and remediation projects.
  • Coordinate suppliers providing commercial services dealing with the shipment and disposal of solid waste via roll-off and front-end load
  • Monitor activities, track data and prepare comprehensive reports using Microsoft Office
  • Support on base work instructions, multi-media compliance audits, regulatory submittals, workplace safety, employee/contractor training and community outreach.
  • Manage contract costs and key performance measures
  • Support management systems & deliverables focusing on federal and local regulatory compliance standards as well as the base Environmental Management policies and procedures dealing with the proper management of waste and the prevention of pollution.
  • Promote the use of new technologies and service solutions focusing on the reduction and reuse of discarded waste, including but not limited to salvageable by-products with economic value, as well as the conservation of energy and water.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree preferred in field related to Environmental and/or Science and 3-5 years' experience working in the areas of: solid waste management, solid waste recycling, environmental compliance.
  • Excellent driving record and ability to operate Class-C vehicle and ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Experience with budgeting and strong project management.
  • Exceptional communication skills, ability to work in an implementation team environment, and communicate with all levels of management and base personnel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, above average computer skills.
