Environmental Specialist - Air

Job Description:

Targa Resources Corp. has an immediate opportunity for an Environmental Specialist in the air permitting team which focuses on working with commercial, engineering, and operations to deliver the company’s business objectives. This job will see air permitting projects from conception through completion and requires strong communication skills to effectively work with personnel across the company. The position will also work with the air compliance team to help implement new programs across the company. This position is located in the Houston Corporate Office and will report to the Manager, Air Projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Title V and New Source Review Permits – determine permitting mechanism for new projects and complete permitting for new and modified oil and gas facilities.
  • Regulatory Analysis – complete regulatory analysis to determine how a rule applies to new and modified oil and gas facilities.
  • Communicate effectively to different levels of company on permitting and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage consultants on completion of air permitting projects, as needed.
  • Provide assistance in resolving issues concerning environmental compliance through research and conferring with appropriate Technical Services personnel.
  • Assist with compliance audits, as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of existing and proposed regulations that affect the oil and gas operations through training classes, lunch and learn, and conference attendance.

Minimum Essential Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related science based degree where the candidate took at least one college level calculus and chemistry, related science, and/or physics class. Will consider other degrees only where candidate has 2+ years of direct work experience in air permitting.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Fluent English verbal and written skills.
  • Intermediate level desktop computer skills using Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Ability to travel away from Houston overnight periodically, as needed.
  • Physical ability to work in the plant site and accompany regulators on plant tours.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision.
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
  • Regular and reliable attendance

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of related experience in a manufacturing or consulting environment through previous work, co-op, or internship.
  • 8+ years of experience – will consider hiring as Senior Environmental Specialist.
  • Experience with PROMAX, TANKS 4.09d, GRI-GLYCalc, and AMINECalc simulation programs.
  • Related work experience with permitting and regulations in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and North Dakota.
  • A collaborative personality, ready to work in teams and with others to solve problems.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside the company (regulatory agencies, contractors, consultants). 
  • Effective time management and communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and manage change.
  • Ability to organize and work self-sufficiently given direction and resources.
