Environmental Programs Auditor

This position will report to the leader for Environmental Auditing. Environmental Auditors must be capable of coordinating and leading on-site multi-media environmental audits with minimal managerial oversight. Demonstrated priorsuccess at managing environmental compliance programs and audit programs is a must. This position requires at least 50% travel. An in-depth understanding of environmental programs is a must.

Program proficiency's include:

Clean Air Act; Clean Water Act; Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act; Resource Conservation and Recovery Act; Federal Insecticide Fungicide and Rodenticide Act; Oil Pollution Act; Safe Drinking Water Act; and other local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Job responsibilities include the following activities: lead and coordinate audit teams, identify environmental compliance risk and deviations with environmental regulations and corporate policies atfood production and ancillary facilities; identify potential corrective actions with facility procedures, programs, and management systems which will further compliance with environmental programs; develop clear and concise audit reports that outline both deviations and corrective actions; communicate environmental obligations and compliance assurance observation methods to facility staff in a clear and meaningful way; communicate audit findings to facility staff and business management groups; review and analyze audit findings to identify potential trends; identify improvement opportunities in auditing methodologies and protocols to further the audit program; and effectively manage budgets.


  • Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in environmental science, natural science (e.g., biology, chemistry, geology, etc.) or engineering required
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years environmental auditing experience, or 2 years of experience within Tyson Foods Environmental Associates Program or programs following its methodology; food industry experience is a plus.
  • Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Special Skills: demonstrated ability to lead professional teams; strong knowledge of US Environmental regulations, permitting and ISO 14001 environmental management systems, with lead auditor credentials or training desired; Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA), or other Environmental Management professional Certification is desired.
