Environmental & Land Management Specialist

Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of environmental and land use permits, providing operational support, preparing regular environmental and land management reports for all assigned facilities that include ready mix and asphalt production and aggregate quarries as required. The role supports the day to day environmental, land management and compliance operations. The person in this role is a member of the Environmental and Land Management Team. The role covers a wide geographical area in Arizona and Southern California with multi-site coordination with local operations, tenants and other functions in the organization.

The responsibilities included in this role are:  

  • Coordinate and support the implementation of  environmental and land management policies and practices at the assigned facilities to ensure full regulatory compliance.  This includes compliance with the local permit requirements (sampling, inspections, reporting, and renewals) as well as requirements for closed sites.
  • Manage and support the implementation of and compliance with all environmental and land management related programs at all the  assigned facilities and sites.
  • Coordinate documentation related to environmental and land management for the assigned sites to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Follow up on actions implemented to correct or improve performance, especially when programs involve testing, documentation or reporting.
  • Prepare reports, maintain appropriate compliance  records, and file required documents with various regulatory agencies within stated deadlines.
  • Work effectively with land owners and tenants to  maintain strong relationships and ensure good stewardship practices.
  • Coordinate environmental training to on-site employees and contractors of the assigned facilities when needed.
  • Coordinate the issuance of tenants account report for the assigned
  • Demonstrates  a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Proactively collaborate with local site management and management teams, build close relationships with site supervisors and staff to enhance effectiveness in      compliance and efficiency in project execution.
  • Through communication and teamwork, develop the role to be a valued service to the local business team.
  • Comply with all Lehigh Hanson policies
  • 30% - 50% travel within area of responsibility
  • 5% travel outside region of responsibility

 This position is located in San Diego, CA or Tempe, AZ


  • Bachelor’s  degree in a related land management, environmental, scientific, or engineering discipline
  • Minimum  of 2 years environmental or land management experience in the aggregate, mining, or similar industry (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to gain commitment
  • Proven technical/professional knowledge
  • High initiative; able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to independently audit and inspect industrial operations, identifying compliant or non-compliant environmental and land management issues, and effectively communicate those findings to Lehigh Hanson management.
  • Ability to prepare environmental permit applications and reports for submittal to external parties including regulatory agencies
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate with internal and external parties in a collaborative, positive manner, including relationship building skills.
  • Competence with computing software
  • Must have and maintain a Driver’s License valid in the state(s) of the assigned facilities
