Position Summary:

This role is responsible for all EH&S functions at the Petaluma and Novato facilities. This includes but is not limited to coordination of all EH&S procedures and policy training, organizing and conducting Spill Response, Safety Committee meetings. Responds to all EH&S requests at the Petaluma facility. 

Organizes all hazardous waste and interfaces with hazardous waste contractors for waste disposal. Oversees all safety inspections throughout the facilities. Documents all inspection findings and informs functional manager of pertinent findings. Responds to all EH&S emergencies at the facilities. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

  • Oversight of EHS policies and procedures
  • Presents various safety training sessions
  • Works with management and staff to identify and eliminate hazardous work environments and practices
  • Ensures timely resolution of tickets related to EH&S
  • Coordinates schedules and ensures proper coverage with staff
  • Ensures completion of hazardous waste inspections and reporting
  • Performs ergonomic evaluations and follow-ups
  • Organizes, and is a member of, the spill response team 
  • Oversees overall safety programs related to inspections of fire extinguisher, emergency exit lighting, and safety shower and eyewash testing
  • Ensures that all chemicals on site are properly stored in hazard areas and labelled appropriately
  • Lead the investigation of accidents and injuries, and cooperate in the preparation of material for hearings and insurance investigations.
  • Ensure company compliance with all applicable state and county laws governing environmental health and safety.

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline such as chemistry, environmental or biotech beneficial
  • Five years’ experience in occupational health / safety / environmental position in an industrial environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience required

Mathematical Skills: 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Licenses and Certifications:

24-hr or 40-hr HAZWOPER Certified

8-hr DOT Certification

Reasoning Abilities:

Ability to remain calm in an emergency situation and help employees.

Technology/Equipment Skills:

  • Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Use of a web browser.
  • Safely operate a forklift and other powered industrial trucks and specialized lifts.
  • Use and calibrate the Eagle 2 gas monitor. Hand drill and similar tools.

Working Conditions:

Work Environment:

Hazardous materials storage areas, laboratory setting, mostly inside but some outdoor work.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel to the Petaluma site, occasional travel to external training sites.

Schedule/Core Hours:

Monday – Friday 7:00 AM-3:30 PM or similar. Must be accessible via phone or radio during working hours.

Extreme Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
