Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Professional

Position Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Professional provides leadership and expertise in the all areas of EHS. They work closely with operations teams and site management to drive EHS multimedia permitting, compliance, performance, and continuous improvement for the Carestream Manufacturing operation in Windsor, Colorado.

Responsibilities:
Perform activities required to maintain compliance with environmental regulations in an industrial manufacturing facility. This includes, but is not limited to, local, state, and federal regulation interpretation, data tracking, reporting, permitting, testing, and training

  • Participate in external compliance audits
  • Act as site liaison with regulatory agencies
  • Manage and/or co-manage the following environmental programs:
  • Air (CAA Title V, MACT, GHG, Refrigerants)
  • EPCRA (Tier II, TRI)
  • Waste (RCRA, Solid Waste, DOT)
  • Water / Wastewater (CWA, SPCC, Wastewater treatment)
  • Spill response
  • TSCA
  • FIFRA
  • Sustainability
  • Use the ISO 14001 program to develop sustainable environmental compliance programs, policies, and procedures. Participate in and support ISO 14001 program training, external and internal audits, and correcting non-conformances
  • Supports reporting environmental performance and compliance data to Corporate offices
  • Conduct situation appraisals, gap analyses, analyze data, and identify potential improvement opportunities in areas of responsibility
  • Support the development of and implement plant environmental Business Plan themes related to environmental compliance
  • Support and train the department environmental representatives on compliance related issues
  • Inform Management of environmental issues/concerns
  • Implement site Health and Safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and zero-incident work environment, including ensuring compliance with safety policies by all staff, contractors and visitors.


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Ergonomics, machine guarding, chemical usage, hazard communication, powered industrial vehicles, electrical safety, fire protection and emergency preparedness, driver safety, noise, and work place design
  • Serve as an advocate, advisor, and consultant to all employees and safety teams
  • Provide expertise and interpretation of legislation to assist the site in determining how to comply with all appropriate safety legislation, company policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Monitor and control industrial hygiene related to the long-term effects of factors such as chemical exposure, noise, lighting, heat, humidity, and etc.
  • Lead and participate in safety incident investigations to identify root cause, and ensure proper investigation documentation is maintained
  • Accompany, document and report OSHA inspections, insurance inspections, and other formal safety and security inspections at the site.
  • Conduct inspections, investigations, safety observations, job safety analyses, and risk assessments and resulting mitigation activities that will identify, evaluate and control unsafe health and safety hazards or risks.
  • Utilize statistical analysis to improve awareness, change behavior, and drive continuous improvement in our programs and processes.
  • Liaise with LEPC and other outside agencies, including, but not limited to, insurance companies, the Fire Marshal, Fire Department, Police Department, and Department of Homeland Security.
  • Develops and delivers Safety training to associates
  • Manages and responds to internal and external audits, including the facilitation of the corrective and preventative actions
  • Informs management of regulatory changes and the impact on the operations

Required Education/Experience:

  • BS degree in Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Risk Management or significant equivalent experience.
  • 3 plus years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing facility
  • Experience with chemical usage and storage processes

Desired Experience:

  • Certification as ASP Associate Safety (ASP), Certified Safety (CSP), and/or Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) professional would be a plus.
  • Industrial experience with chemical, mechanical, and manufacturing process
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and compliance
  • Knowledge of best Safety and Health policies, practices and procedures
  • Experience auditing the work and workplace with eyes for improvement
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations including experience with OSHA
  • Experience with Safety Incident Reporting and Tracking software systems
  • Application of Continuous Improvement Methodology & Root Cause Analysis
  • Act as a Cultural "Change Agent"
  • Possess leadership skills
  • Ability to lead by influencing
  • Achieve results through others where no/little formal lines of authority exist
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Colorado environmental regulations, including major source air pollution permitting, EPCRA, solid and hazardous waste, industrial wastewater, storm water
  • Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard, management system auditing, and compliance auditing.
  • Ability to apply problem solving tools and methodology to a variety of manufacturing and business process issues.
