Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

The EHS Managers primary duties are to protect employees, contractors, visitors, customers and the environment. The incumbent will inspect and evaluate the environment, working conditions, equipment and all facility processes to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, industry standards, company standards and best management practices. The incumbent must monitor all Federal, Oregon and local regulations that pertain to personnel safety, hazardous waste management, wastewater, storm water, hazardous materials transportation, air quality, etc.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Implement environmental policies and procedures to meet regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform various environmental, health and safety inspections on a regular basis.
  • Translate environmental requirements into business risk mitigation plans, activities and financial impacts.
  • Implement and maintain sustainability programs, including the tracking of sustainability metrics.
  • Produce and maintain required regulatory reports, data and permit applications.
  • Conduct 1-2 environmental and safety training classes per month.
  • Maintain the site’s Risk Management and hazardous waste programs.
  • Lead the site’s Safety Committee and various safety teams, and ensure continuous improvement of the site’s safety performance and overall safety culture via frequent interaction with other department leaders and the continuous roll-out of new and effective safety programs designed to maintain employee awareness and engagement.
  • Prepare the site for ISO 45001 certification and program management, as well as maintain the site’s ISO14001 program.
  • Work with various departments to coordinate equipment installations, contractor activities, training and documentation.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, prepare all required documentation, schedule and perform all required testing, and provide additional documentation as required.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments for individual employees and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Investigate potential hazards, near misses, accidents, injuries and illnesses, and implement engineering practices focused on corrective and preventive actions using the 8D process.
  • Research and implement engineering practices focused at reducing environmental impacts and operational costs.
  • Order, calibrate and maintain EHS equipment used for emergency situations (e.g. monitoring equipment and emergency response supplies).
  • Coordinate all emergency response activities and ensure that ERT responders understand the purpose and operation of life safety systems.
  • Manage contractors and consultants working on EHS-related tasks and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or safety engineering, or other related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in environmental and safety compliance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Ability to train and educate groups as well as individuals. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Illustrator).
  • Ability with work as part of a global, company-wide EHS team to develop and maintain the local EHS program, and support other facilities when necessary.
  • Must have good people skills, be able to multi-task and enjoy working in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.
