Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Director - Shared Services

JOB SUMMARY:
Reports directly to Avangrid Vice President – Environmental, Health & Safety. Responsible for leading the Group Environmental, Health & Safety Shared Services team across the Avangrid operating companies to implement EH&S strategy supporting business unit EH&S compliance, governance, and reporting.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads H&S compliance & procedures team to develop policy & consistent AGR standards and procedures to meet legal, IBE Group & other requirements. Reviews proposed state and federal regulations to evaluate the impact to the Company, provide H&S technical advice to businesses.
  • Leads systems & governance teams utilizing EH&S applications to provide appropriate key performance indicator reporting, data trending analysis, as well as required stakeholder and compliance reports for external 3rd parties.
  • Collaborates with IBE Group stakeholders to share best practices & the implementation of IBE Group global initiatives through projects, processes, and communications for AGR organization.
  • Supports the development of the AGR EH&S strategy, and related business unit EH&S operating plans. Tracks & reports on strategy & EH&S plan implementation across AGR business units.
  • Supports establishing and managing EH&S budgets, prepares periodic budget reports for all EH&S.
  • Leads internal and external audit process for compliance programs and management system certification for EH&S.
  • Liaise with external trade associations including EEI, AWEA, AGA, and professional networks in collaboration with BU staff to stay current on industry risks, regulatory activity, and best practices.
  • Supports the implementation of the AGR H&S Communications Plan across the business.
  • Coordinates annual sustainability reporting for the function both within AGR and as required to support IBE requirements.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Health & Safety or related, (Master’s Degree desirable). Experience developing and reporting targets and key performance indicators to executive leadership. Experience in large corporate organizations, working with international standards is desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business with a similar environmental, health & safety risk profile, or relevant electrical & gas energy industry experience.
  • Understanding of US health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Experience in implementing integrated management systems and audit programs, including ISO certification/OSHA VPP
  • Successful candidate must be willing and able to undertake approximately 50% travel to all AGR locations, including occasional international trips.
