Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager


Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager to provide leadership and presence at our new facility in Phoenix, AZ. This will be a new startup manufacturing location with an anticipated overall workforce of 75 – 100 employees. This position will start by focusing on the startup but will manage other projects as the demands of the Phoenix facility change.
Reporting to the Operations Leader, the EHS Manager provides leadership and strategic direction by building a partnership with front-line leaders and collaborating with business partners to develop and mentor the production team relating to EHS.
In this role, the EHS Manager ensures systems effectively address facility EHS risk profiles. The role balances Safety and Environmental with a 70% focus on safety and a 30% focus on environmental aspects and accountability.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
     * Developing and implementing new EHS policies and procedures for the startup operation
     * Developing and aligning facility EHS programs and strategies according to the business/enterprise EHS plan
     * Partnering with facility leadership to develop short and long-term EHS objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize and mitigate risks.
     * Conducting routine management reviews and adjusting plans as necessary
     * Leading the development of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards
     * Providing leadership and direction to achieve the EHS vision through management commitment and employee ownership
     * Facilitating EHS ownership by the line organization through integration of the EHS Management System
     * Fostering an environment where employees recognize critical hazards and understand and exercise their decision rights regarding EHS
     * Ensuring an effective change management process is in place
     * Ensuring the development, improvement, and implementation of training systems to meet facility needs utilizing qualified instructors 
     * Leading security efforts for the facility
     * Working together with the Leadership Team to support various other start up activities
     * Applying Human & Organization Performance (HOP) concepts so the facility becomes a robust learning environment where knowledge sharing occurs in an expedite manner
What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:
     * Experience in one or both of the following:
          + Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Safety or EHS field
          + Three (3) years or more of experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety role in an industrial or manufacturing environment
     * Willing and able to travel to support startup initiatives including nationwide travel to other facilities, customers and our corporate office
     * Willing and able to support a 24/7 operation (occasional night, weekend and holiday support)
     * Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
What Will Put You Ahead?
Preferred Qualifications:
     * Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or demonstrated progress to attain CSP or other professional safety certifications
     * Previous leadership / supervisory experience
     * Previous engineering experience
     * Understanding of Arizona environmental and safety regulations
     * Experience with a start-up operation
     * Experience managing the EHS function at multiple facilities
