Environmental Engineer

  • Lead the facility hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, transportation and disposal processes and activities, including completing waste profiles, required inspections, container labeling, manifesting and reporting.
  • Lead the facility Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program, including ensuring the necessary testing and recordkeeping is completed as required.
  • Manage sample collection, analytical testing, and recordkeeping necessary to comply with facility environmental permits.
  • Serve as a facility environmental liaison with local, state and other emergency response and regulatory agencies.
  • Work with the HSE Lead to ensure that environmental permits, reports, plans and other environmental requirements are complete, current, properly implemented in the operations and that reports are submitted in a timely manner.  The environmental scope for the plant includes all media - air, water and waste.
  • Provide technical/professional support regarding applicable environmental regulations and issues.  Support PSM environmental issues reviews and MOC process.
  • Collect and record data to support the facility environmental systems in order to provide timely recordkeeping and reporting both internally and to external agencies.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to regulatory permit compliance to avoid negative impacts to the business and to capture opportunities.
  • Ensure that all environmental incidents are promptly and properly reported, investigated, and documented and that corrective action items are completed within appropriate time frames.
  • Develop and implement programs to achieve zero RQ releases and zero environmental violations.
  • Conduct employee environmental training, track training completion and work with facility management to ensure that all training is completed as required by applicable regulations and company policies.   
  • Assist the HSE Lead with the development, implementation and testing of emergency response plans and safety procedures.
  • Work with Process Engineers, Maintenance, Lab and Manufacturing management in the early design and “architecture” of capital projects to build environmental protection considerations into the processes.
  • Other HSE duties and assignments as directed by supervisor.


Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or related science is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years in the environmental field in a manufacturing or waste management/control environment.
  • Experience in working with and managing local, state and federal regulatory agencies, requirements and reporting (Title V regulatory reporting) is required.
  • Experience in the chemical industry is preferred.
  • A proven ability to lead, modify and improve plant programs, policies and initiatives is desired.
  • Strong problem solving skills are required.
