Environmental Engineer

Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Environmental Engineer for our Cedar Springs, GA facility. This person will work within the Cedar Springs Environmental team, helping ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. They will be expected to implement and maintain environmental management systems that promote environmental excellence. In addition, they will support the facility’s efforts in conforming to company policies and procedures, such as Georgia-Pacific's Environmental Compliance Standards. This role will initially be focused on water and wastewater compliance and permitting and will eventually grow in proficiency to provide assistance across all environmental media and programs.

In operation since 1963, Georgia-Pacific’s Cedar Springs Mill is one of the largest producers of containerboard in the United States. The customer base includes external and international customers as well as internal Georgia-Pacific box plants. The mill, located in Cedar Springs, GA, is about 30 miles from Dothan, AL and is about 1.5 hours from 2 major capital cities, Tallahassee, FL and Montgomery, AL. This mill employees around 500 people.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

     * Obtaining and maintaining the necessary environmental permits and licenses 

     * Providing support in maintaining compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements, including managing the mill’s onsite wastewater treatment system

     * Preparing and submitting required regulatory reports to outside agencies 

     * Performing release reporting and recordkeeping as required by company policy, environmental regulations, and environmental permits

     * Monitoring key compliance metrics and implementing corrective and preventive actions to continually improve performance

     * Serving as a point of contact for environmental support for the facility and rotate with other team members to provide support on weekends and holidays

     * Identifying and implementing required training for operations, maintenance, engineering, and other facility staff

     * Developing and managing systems to maintain adherence with the company compliance standards

     * Maintaining and growing knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, as well as environmental process technologies 

     * Identifying cost effective solutions to proactively address environmental issues, working closely with internal corporate subject matter experts as needed

     * Representing the facility at agency meetings and during agency inspections

     * Sharing knowledge with environmental engineers from other GP facilities and participating in internal audits of other facilities

     * Interacting with division/corporate environmental and legal resources to seek the best knowledge

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

     * One or more of the following:

          + One (1) year or more of experience in an environmental engineering role

          + Successful completion of Georgia-Pacific's ELP, EDP, or intern programs

     * Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, Pulp & Paper Technology, or other engineering or physical science discipline 

     * Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

     * Three (3) years or more of experience in an environmental engineering role

     * Experience working in pulp & paper or a similar process industry as an environmental engineer or equivalent process role with environmental involvement

     * Experience managing compliance with laws and regulations for water and wastewater compliance and permitting

     * Wastewater analyst certification

     * Ability to complete requirements for drinking water/waste water licenses within first year of hire
