Environmental Engineer

Hexcel is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer for our Casa Grande, AZ. USA facility. 

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:  

  • Responsible for Hexcel Casa Grande’s Air, Waste, and Water Management Compliance and the site’s ISO 14001 Management System/Certification process.   
  • Conduct Phase I/Phase II environmental site assessments as needed.
  • Supervise the site’s Waste Management Program to ensure compliance.
  • Analyze and interpret environmental regulations and disseminate the information to plant management and other appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and implement environmental strategies to reduce waste, emissions and cost.  In addition, develop compliance strategies to reduce regulatory burden and increase operational flexibility.
  • Assist with PSM Management to ensure compliance.
  • Operate at all times in compliance with the Hexcel Casa Grande Quality System and Quality Policy.
  • Comply with Hexcel policies, procedures, and Code of Business Conduct.


Administer and maintain the following to ensure compliance and effective operation of the site:

  • Title V PSD Major Source Air Program
  • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
  • Emergency Planning, and Community Right-To-Know Act (EPCRA)
  • TSCA requirements
  • Underground Storage Tank (UST) and Aboveground Storage Tank (AGST)
  • Environmental compliance reporting
  • ISO 14001 Management System and certification process, ensuring non-conformities are investigated and addressed in a timely manner
  • Site remediation projects/issues

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent (Masters preferred).
  • 7 plus years of previous professional environmental experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in working with EPA Title V PSD Major Source/permitting requirements, RCRA Large Quality Generator waste requirements, TSCA, OSHA and DOT requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with Title V PSD Major Source testing protocols and testing methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with and managing Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWT) operations and general knowledge of operational chemistry.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Federal Clean Water act, NPDES permitting and compliance, and SPCC and SWPPP regulations.
  • Knowledge of Arizona Water and Sediment Quality Standards a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001.
  • Experience in working with outside environmental attorneys and consultants. 
  • Extensive experience in working with regulatory agencies and authorities and the ability to effectively communicate/negotiate on issues to ensure best possible outcome for Hexcel.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing remediation and Phase I/Phase II environmental site assessments. 
  • Must be able to travel to other Hexcel sites as required. 
  • Must have the ability to work with all levels of the organization. 
  • Must have knowledge of process technologies employed at site as well as the results of potential first and second order interactions of them (spills, mistakes, health synergisms, etc.). 
  • Must recognize impact on customers, workers and economic results to the Company and appropriately balance these against the need for safety in the fullest sense.
  • Knowledge of PSM/RMP requirements.
  • Computer proficiency in: Word, Excel, Access, other databases.
  • Self-motivated and have good organizational and time management skills.
  • Have excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to handle detail oriented work.
  • Ability to read and decipher voluminous regulations and explain the requirements to others.
  • Excellent written/oral communication, advocacy and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage workload in order to meet multiple deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Excellent communication skills interfacing effectively with cross-functional teams and individuals at all levels of the organization.
