Environmental Engineer - Air

Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products Mill located in Pennington, Alabama is seeking to hire an experienced Environmental Engineer focusing on Air compliance and permitting.  Applicants must: possess a current knowledge of rules and regulations, an ability to prepare permit applications and environmental reports for regulatory agencies, provide appropriate training on environmental topics, and maintain strong working relationships with operations teams and regulatory agencies.  The individual will also be expected to develop and/or implement environmental management systems that are effective in driving environmental excellence for this integrated pulp and paper facility. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and submitting all required air regulatory reports in a fast-paced team environment and demonstrate continuous compliance with State, Federal and Corporate regulatory requirements and compliance standards.  The individual will be expected to engage in site auditing and inspections, help employees understand their environmental obligations and maintain a strong working relationship with regulatory agencies and the community.  This position reports to the mill’s Environmental Manager.
 
The Naheola Mill is a large manufacturing site for the company’s well-known consumer products business. More than 800 employees produce a wide range of products for the consumer business, including and Angel Soft® bath tissue and Sparkle® paper towels, as well as bleached paperboard used in Dixie® paper cups and plates.
 
The mill is the largest employer in the community and is engaged in supporting community outreach, workforce development and education.  The area is a sportsman’s paradise with world-class hunting for deer, turkey and other small game and is bounded on the east by the Tombigbee River which provides such recreation as freshwater fishing, boating and water skiing.  Residents of this area enjoy the mild climate, a low cost of living, and is an easy drive to the many resort communities and soft white-sand beaches of the Gulf Coast.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes: 

  • Monitoring daily compliance status and emerging air issues; communicate with the environmental manager and mill manager of key compliance obligations.
  • Preparing and/or coordinating air compliance reports for the mill in cooperation with division, corporate, and outside resources.
  • Overseeing operations of all CEMs equipment requirements including day to day operations, quarterly CGA’s and annual RATA requirements.
  • Interacting with state and EPA to facilitate air permit inspections. 
  • Possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, able to work with all levels of the organization
  • Showing ability to build partnerships, computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 
  • Demonstrating Integrity and humility, attention to detail, problem solving abilities, self-directed, sense of urgency and teamwork.
     

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Science, Chemical, or Civil engineering or other related discipline
  • Four (4) or more years of recent air or water compliance experience in a manufacturing industry 
  • Ability to work extended hours and/or serve on a rotational week-end duty team.
  • Experience and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Air permitting experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of other environmental regulations is a plus
