Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Expert

This position ensures the environmental performance and acts as a functional expert resource of the organization. The prime objective is to assist in the optimization of the overall environmental aspects of the organization across the value chain in order to enhance the corporate image with proactive consumer and customer oriented activities and external engagement.

Working along with the Group SH&E Manager, Environmental and internal and external partners, the position develops, implements and maintains robust environmental strategies, policies and plans that cultivate a culture where environmental sustainability is ingrained as a core value, promoting a highly efficient, low cost value chain and with a mindset based around continuous excellence.

The Environmental Expert is an experienced resource used to build capability of other internal company resources and as such acts to build environmental knowledge and capability across the organization.

Primary responsibilities:

In addition to helping lead and set the corporate environmental strategies, initiatives, programs and procedures as part of the Corporate SH&E Functional Leadership Team. Responsibilities include functional leadership via hands on counsel, supervision, assessment and implementation of:

1.Environmental strategies, programs, systems and plans – Support the Development of Environmental best in class programs, systems and processes, including training and coaching to establish clear procedures on environmental measures and precautions in accordance with ISO 14001 and other relevant internal and external standards. Develops and maintains appropriate regulatory knowledge as it applies to operations.


Provides expert guidance on the development of internal environmental audit protocols to ensure operations and all facilities are in compliance with company and regulatory requirements and associated policies pertaining to Environment and Environmental Sustainability. Help with the direction of company-wide functional Environmental programs and acts as internal subject matter expert in those areas.


Active sponsor for implementation of Environmental aspects as they pertain to corporate improvement opportunities. Work through established systems, applies related tools. Builds effective, functioning networks across the operations and facilities to provide support to ensure common understanding to drive specific issues.

2.Environmental Remediation project management –Aid the implementation and the management of all Company remediation projects. Assemble and lead teams of internal and external expert resources to minimize cost, long term liability and time of remedial activities. Work with regulators, other land owners and members of the public to ensure proactive collaboration on projects.

3.Environmental Staff support training and capability building – Establish cross-functional networks that increase environmental awareness. Support organizational leaders in the development and deployment of environmental coaching and training tools. Regularly interact with cross-functional organizational leaders, SH&E experts, and SH&E Leadership to drive towards environmental excellence and continuous improvement.

4.Liaison and technical expertise for the business – Provide technical expertise in all areas and initiatives of the function. Partner with internal and external partners to deliver on a variety of initiatives including legal, procurement, packaging, marketing, engineering, operations, quality, NCE, etc. Represent the company in key external organizations and build effective networks that ultimately deliver value to the business and overall brand equity.

5.Key Initiatives – In addition to overall input to corporate environmental initiatives, strategies, programs and procedures, responsibilities include assisting the Group Environmental Manager in major projects/assignments, and supporting facilities and groups (including other Nestlé Markets) via hands on counsel, supervision, assessment and partnership in where expert environmental council may be needed.


Requirements and minimum education level:

  • Bachelors Degree in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline.
  • Environmental Professional Certification (CEM, etc.) strongly preferred



  • Thorough and detailed knowledge and interpretive ability of state and federal safety/environmental regulations
  • Minimum 5 years factory experience and/or division, regional, or corporate environmental experience.




  • Strong communications, strategic, training, and motivational management and leadership skills.
  • Good technical understanding of Environmental issues, life cycle thinking and their relationship to production/engineering and job functions
  • Demonstrated diplomacy skills with strong negotiation and influencing capabilities.
  • Must be capable of working in a fast paced environment with minimal direct supervision and have strong demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and self-initiative skills.
  • Strong demonstrated verbal/ written communications, analytical and problem solving skills. Must be detailed and results oriented.
  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory and technical issues in lay terms.
  • Strong change management, team building abilities.
  • Ability to achieve results through dotted line situations.
  • Proficiency with Windows based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to master other specialized software.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop others.
