EHS Manager

The KIK Cortland location is a large campus and houses 2 manufacturing facilities. KIK's two manufacturing facilities in Cortland, New York are FDA registered and specialize in producing personal care liquids for the consumer products industry. Cortland is located approximately 35 minutes outside of Syracuse, NY.

Position Summary:
The EHS Manager, is responsible for ensuring facility compliance with corporate Health, Environmental, and Safety, Security and Sustainability ("HESS") requirements and governmental regulations. Specific duties such as safety training, compliance audits, leading employee committees, managing improvement projects, waste management, necessary paper work and record keeping.  Ultimate goal is to ensure the site is driving EHS excellence in all areas. Ideal candidate for this position is a hands on EHS leader with strengths in collaborating and gaining buy in with multiple levels of management and employees in a fast-paced plant environment with proven ability to manage a complex workload

Accountabilities and Expectations:

  • Manages site's Title V Air Permitting and compliance, wastewater permits, stormwater permits, RCRA, and remediation programs
  • Review Safety and Work practices at Plant level and conduct Incident Investigations with GMs and other facility personnel
  • Monitors and ensure compliance with facility environmental permits and acts as a primary liaison with government inspectors
  • Conducts routine site review with leadership team to define site-specific EHS goals and monitor progress
  • Facilitates/Leads joint employee-management EHS committees
  • Develops and leads site specific EHS improvement initiatives such as waste reduction, injury avoidance, and improved employee involvement
  • Provide prompt and complete communications with corporate EHS personnel regarding incidents and spills as required by corporate requirements
  • Conduct and accurately document routine EHS (including security) audits and inspections
  • Develop, implement and manage appropriate emergency response programs including ensuring proper training was conducted and drills completed
  • Manages the collection, storage, transportation, and shipping of hazardous waste
  • Facilitates the return to work of injured workers and manages Workers Compensation claims
  • Drive and implement a total Safety Culture using behavior based methodologies

Process Safety Management:

  • Develop and manage projects related to PSM
  • Prepare and maintain the management systems required to maintain compliance
  • Prepare activity reports to keep the PSM and EHS team members informed


  • OSHA/EPA and other mandatory local, state and federal topics
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and deliver a variety of training topics
  • Develop and promote programs to educate first level Supervisors and Managers to effectively instruct employees


  • Manage contracted services and support Corporate guidelines
  • Perform audits, reporting and investigations
  • Manage and coordinate all programs for compliance with PSM and RMP standards

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and  5-7+ years' experience managing or supervising EHS in manufacturing environment
  • CSP or other EHS related certifications a plus
  • Strong Safety background including PSMs
  • Experience in Title V Air Permitting and compliance, wastewater permits, stormwater permits, RCRA, and remediation programs a plus
  • Functional strength in safety management and at least a working knowledge of environmental regulations and the regulatory process
  • Demonstrated success as a hands on leader / manager with a sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple priorities and projects under pressure.
  • Develops relationships quickly
  • Must be available to work on an on call basis, (this is a 24/7 facility)
  • Ability to drive organizational change
