Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator

Job Summary: 
The EHS Coordinator will provide full time environmental health and safety support and will ensure that all internal policies and practices are in compliance with regulatory requirements. The position will be responsible for coordination and implementation of EHS goals and targets. The position will support training programs and the development of safety culture throughout the plant

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  • Audit and walk the site regularly to ensure that effective EHS standards are implemented and working.
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee/line leadership level to ensure a common and effective approach to safety;
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible hazards and liabilities.
  • Assist with regulatory audits as required.
  • Conduct employee orientations; emergency response training; and coordination of regulatory required safety trainings.
  • Maintain hard copy and computer filing systems regarding worker training and safety;
  • Coordinate with EHS Manager on facility deficiencies and monthly safety inspections.
  • Create, maintain and update JSA’s for all safe work practices and equipment.
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.
  • Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property follow company policies and safety requirements.
  • Maintain all written and computer-based logs and documentation associated with audits and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage accidents and incidents which occur; provide first aid or emergency response as needed, document, report and assist in the identification of root cause and the development of corrective actions.
  • Assist in the follow-up of safety related corrective actions to ensure they are executed and sustained. 
  • Support and coordinate safety committee meetings and actions.
  • Maintain stock of PPE and Emergency Response Equipment

Technical Skills:

  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess presentation and training skills, organization and planning abilities.
  • Provide hands-on training and coaching of others.


  • Minimum of one year in Environmental Health and Safety.Preferably in Food Manufacturing or a similar industry.
  • OSHA-10/30 Certification (preferred)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (preferred)
  • HAZWOPER Certification (preferred)
  • Intermediate expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of LOTO, and HAZCOM required.
  • Team player and able to build and maintain relationships.
  • Flexible to change and open to constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to exercises appropriate judgment in decision-making and problem solving; seeks help promptly as necessary.
  • Ability to grasp new ideas, complete tasks with minimal supervision, prioritize, organize or re-organize work, and manage time efficiently and effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reading, writing, talking, use of computer.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone systems, and person – to –person.
  • Clear concise speaking ability to provide information and instruction.
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Manual and tactile dexterity for palpation, use of computer keyboard/typing, writing, handling/ sorting objects and forms.
  • Flexibility and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, standing, reaching, lifting and moving objects and equipment (approximately 40lbs. or more with assistance), sitting.
  • Able to meet physical demands of the job with assistive or adaptive devices or reasonable accommodations.

Work Environment:

  • Work is indoors and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are harmful chemicals used in the facility, PPE is required.
  • The noise level in this work environment requires hearing protection.
  • Duties subject to stressful pressures and deadlines.
