Specific Responsibilities:
We have an exciting opportunity in the EH&S department. We are looking to build a world class EH&S team here in Gilead. You will be working with a highly motivated and cross functional team to build a proactive Safety culture and execute exciting initiatives. The role of the EH&S Senior Program Manager is to conduct and manage various programs and activities in EH&S Department. We are looking for a self-starter with superior analysis and problem solving skills ranging from simple to complex situations. This individual is expected to explain information and influence others in order to secure successful implementation of EH&S programs and directives as assigned.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:
The EH&S Senior Program Manager will proactively work with EH&S opportunities and act as an agent of change while working effectively. Basic essential duties include:

Leadership Experience:

  • Direct experience on strategy setting by understanding the desired future while connecting it to the present and building commitment and optimism
  • Experience with setting goals for a department that unites people and focus energy
  • Direct experience on leading by example and ability to secure resources under challenging circumstances

Industrial Hygiene:

  • Annual and periodic exposure monitoring development and execution in complex setting
  • Manage EH&S programs as required, includingindustrialhygiene related programs
  • Develops, implements and maintains comprehensive IH management systems and skills as an IH subject matter expert with demonstrated achievements in planning and managing projects

Result oriented:

  • Develop, innovate and execute SMART goals
  • Align Company goals with department specific while effectively influence others without direct formal authority
  • Set goals and leading indicators to demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness of related activities, in addition to providing interpretative guidance regarding exposure monitoring results and recommending appropriate controls
  • Deliver agreed upon results ahead of schedule by effectively overcome barriers and potential challenges

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Identify and mitigate hazards
  • Develop, assess, oversee risk assessment program for new and existing processes
  • Develop, enhance Leading and Lagging Indicators
  • Improve and enhance processes and customer service
  • Industrial Hygiene monitoring and annual exposure strategy, potent compounds/API, indoor air quality, asbestos and lead Ergonomics
  • Ensure compliance
  • Represent EH&S in multiple technical programs or serve as a representative of
  • EH&S Management during regulatory visits
  • Culture Change / Behavior Based Safety
  • Manage risk assessment program for new and existing processes
  • Develop and conduct EH&S training as assigned/appropriate
  • Prepare, revise and implement SOPs, Work Instructions, and compliance plans
  • Conduct incident investigations and tracking the completion of associated corrective actions
  • Review engineering projects and provide input
  • Enhance auditing program and conduct site-wide building inspections, including escorting regulatory agency personnel, preparing findings memos and developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Present findings and recommendations to management while ensuring buy-ins on action plans
  • Manage multiple projects of significant complexity and risk
  • Exercise judgment to determine appropriate action
  • Provide solutions to significantly complex problems
  • Operate successfully with little instruction on routine work
  • Work proactively with all EH&S team members to ensure that all EH&S Program and project goals are met
  • Represent EH&S in multiple technical programs or serve as a representative of
  • EH&S Management during regulatory visits
  • Demonstrate a high degree of commitment
  • Influence change in a complex environment
  • Work across professional boundaries to develop solutions
  • Demonstrate competent negotiation skills when dealing with challenging situations

Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required:

  • B.S. in basic (Physical and/or Life) science or engineering
  • Certification such as CSP, CHMM, CIH
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in EH&S and industry
  • Knowledge with CAL-OSHA, CAL-EPA, DOT, NFPA, and PSM
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Knowledge, Experience and Skills Preferred:

  • Master degree in EH&S
  • Experience in Emergency Response
  • Experience in LOTO, Confined Space, Contractor Safety, etc.
  • Experience with implementation/execution of ISO related standards and Process
  • Safety Management
