Director, Workplace Consulting & Subject Matter Expertise

Directs Workplace Safety Consulting Services, including business planning, client relationship management, on-site safety management system assessments, audits, and other on-site consulting. Serves as the primary resource and ultimate authority for workplace safety subject matter expertise for the National Safety Council. Supervises workplace safety consultants and subject matter experts and make assignments accordingly. Manages day-to-day workplace consulting projects, serves as technical guardian for assigned subject matter areas and ensures technical accuracy and report writing. Ensures that consistency is integrated into all workplace products, services offerings and marketing communications. Develops and delivers customer satisfaction on Workplace Consulting engagements. Responsible for improvement and innovation of existing consulting products and services. Budgeting & P/L responsibility for Workplace Consulting.

Directs Workplace Safety Consulting Services:

  • Responsible for profit and loss and creating a growth-oriented business strategy and plan of these service businesses, including budgeting, forecasting, marketing, prospecting, sales, client contact, customer relations, and quality of delivery of service.
  • Assures that the Workplace Safety Consulting Services sales volume and profitability objectives are achieved.
  • Assists in planning and directing daily and long-range activities in business development and innovation.
  • Uses safety and industry specific expertise to supervise and deliver consulting services. Directs the development and delivery of consulting services to meet the needs of members and customers worldwide.
  • In conjunction with Field Sales team recruits major national corporate accounts and expand program participation of Workplace Safety consulting services.
  • Represents the Workplace Safety Consulting Services and National Safety Council in the field to members, customers, agencies, government agencies and officials, local councils, etc.
  • Participate in critical, long-term decisions that affect the growth of the Workplace Safety Consulting Services product line.

Serves as the primary source and ultimate authority for workplace safety subject matter expertise for the National Safety Council. Interacts with all departments at the Council involved with workplace safety to carry out this function.

  • Provides expertise to workplace safety product development and other activities requiring workplace safety technical knowledge
  • Has a primary role in leading NSC’s integrated workplace safety strategy.
  • Assigns consulting resources to respond to subject matter expertise requests

Manages workplace safety consultants and subject matter experts:

  • Hires, trains, and manages qualified and experienced workplace safety technical experts to deliver workplace consulting and serve as subject matter experts for all National Safety Council products and services.
  • Travel - 10-15% as needed

Master’s Degree or higher in safety management, business management or engineering. Professional certification such as CSP preferred or achieved within the first two years of employment. Comprehensive understanding of safety management, engineering, occupational health and hygiene, OSHA standards and requirements, and other pertinent regulatory agencies and requirements is necessary.

This position requires a minimum of 15 years occupational safety and health management experience, with extensive experience and track record in business planning and business development.
